Creatures Semifinals

(8) Dark Confidant

The crowd is on their feet as Robert D. Confidant takes down the all-powerful Tarmogoyf! The tourney has lost its first 1 seed, and Tarmogoyf will have to head back to Lhurgoyfton in shame as he fails to even advance to the sweet 16.

vs.

(4) Stoneforge Mystic

The wielder of the legendary Caw Blade moves on past Eternal Witness without much trouble, but has to be eyeing Bob cautiously after his upset of Goyf.

(3) Emrakul, the Aeons Torn

Emrakul continues to annihilate all in its path, but it faced some grudging resistance from Mother of Runes, who gracefully leaves the tournament by putting up a decent fight against an Eldrazi single-handed.

vs.

(7) Birds of Paradise

One and done for the Titans, who slip by Morphling but don't have enough in the tank to handle the power of The Word of Paradise. Can the magical mana birds defeat Emrakul?

Artifacts Semifinals

(1) Black Lotus

The tourney favorite had a surprisingly hard time against Aether Vial, as a clear anti-Lotus bloc of voters emerged. Will this bloc be sufficient to impede BL's progress in future matchups?

vs.

(4) Skullclamp

Clamp narrowly edges by Winter Orb, as its overpoweredness is too hot to handle. But as Cruel Ultimatum reminds us, there is always a greater power, and now Clamp must stare down the even-more overpowered Lotus.

(3) Sol Ring

The One Ring has no problems at all with Umezawa's Jitte. But how will it fare against five of the Power Nine?

vs.

(2) The Moxen ( e.g. Mox Pearl )

Mindslaver puts up a good fight, but is defeated by the Moxen, leaving the ill-reputed Skullclamp as the only hope to spoil an all-mana-artifacts final.

EDH Generals Semifinals

(1) Zur the Enchanter *f-etch*

No real problems for our favorite against Oona, Queen of the Fae, as any judgment based on power level had to go to Dr. Z.

vs.

(13) Scion of the Ur-Dragon

THE STREAK CONTINUES! Cinderella keeps on dancing as Scion caps off an amazing come-from-behind victory against the respected Uril, the Miststalker. Can it pull of the impossible and beat Zur himself?

(3) Thraximundar

Vig kept it close for a while, but Thrax overpowered him commandingly in the end.

vs.

(15) Edric, Spymaster of Trest

Bracketologists across the Magic nation nod grimly and knowingly- the bracket committee were fools to seed Edric this low. Now he faces another big test in the form of everyone's favorite Zombie Assassin.

Planeswalkers Semifinals

(1) Jace, the Mind Sculptor

Jace screams at the crowd: "Obey. OBEEEEYYYY." And they do.

vs.

(6) Ajani Vengeantfoil

Ajani pulls off the slight upset against Gideon by only a single vote! But does any of it matter against JTMS?

(5) Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker

Bolas stomps Venser to move on. Will Dominaria's Most Ancient Evil contend for the title of Greatest Planeswalker?....

vs.

(2) Elspeth, Knight-Errant

...or will Elspeth? She narrowly defeats the upstart Liliana of the Veil to earn the right to Enter the Dragon.

DeckBuilder345 says... #1

  1. Stoneforge Mystic b/c she dominated so many formats that she had to be banned
  2. Emrakul, the Aeons Torn he is friggin awesome... and kills like everything... how that dumb bird beat the titans i will never know....
  3. Skullclamp boo lotus
  4. Sol Ring mana ramping for everyone and not retardedly expensive.
  5. Scion of the Ur-Dragon both cards are retardedly wordy but this one is a dragon plus gogo cindarella story
  6. Edric, Spymaster of Trest - so friendly and easy to cast
  7. Ajani Vengeant so much good stuff in ajani land death, lightning helix and tapping... don't let that JTMS win... boo jace... boo
  8. Elspeth, Knight-Errant b/c so good and comes down months before you can actually play a bolas.

  1. Dark Confidant . The card draw is strong in this one.
  2. Emrakul, the Aeons Torn . It's like someone at Wizards had a kid who was just like every single Magic player ever - they wanted that one creature that just broke everything and said, "I win". Protection, evasion, extra turn, destruction, and doesn't stay in the graveyard. A dream creature come true.
  3. Black Lotus . Just too good.
  4. Moxen. Colored mana vs. more colorless mana, I'd say colored mana wins.
  5. Zur the Enchanter . I guess.
  6. I'd say Thraximundar is the better commander.
  7. Jace, the Mind Sculptor just wins here.
  8. Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker destroys everything. I actually like him over Jace also.

  1. Stoneforge Mystic honestly, this may sound stupid, but I don't see the power in Dark Confidant
  2. Emrakul, the Aeons Torn by a mile
  3. Black Lotus no contest here
  4. The Moxen

I don't play EDH, so I don't really know about the power of these Generals

  1. Jace, the Mind Sculptor and he will continue to steamroll the competition
  2. Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker , just made a Grixis Control deck. He's now my fav Planeswalker. Plus Elspeth is so meh

DaShPrime says... #7

  1. Stoneforge Mystic - One's banned, one isn't
  2. Emrakul, the Aeons Torn - More iconic, there's nothing like that sense of awe when someone plops this down. Same can't be said about Birds, though they are iconic too
  3. Black Lotus - Much as I don't like it, Dark Ritual for 0 in any colour is just too much
  4. The Moxen - You can have 5 Moxen in your deck, you can only have one Sol Ring .
  5. Zur the Enchanter - No fight at all. No idea how Scion got here in the first place
  6. Thraximundar - Personal preference
  7. Jace, the Mind Sculptor - This is an even more unfair fight than Zur vs Scion
  8. Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker - While both win you games, Nicol Bolas once again has that awe factor in his favour

  1. Stoneforge Mystic . I still have PTSD from caw-blade decks
  2. The flying spaghetti monster of course
  3. Black Lotus . Duh.
  4. The Moxen. Also Duh.
  5. Scion of the Ur-Dragon !!!!!!!
  6. Thraximundar . Grixis is so much more fun in EDH than Simic
  7. Jace, the Mind Sculptor . For adequate reasoning, see Stoneforge Mystic
  8. Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker . He's just so evil and I love it

  1. Dark Confidant - Because unlike Battle Royale, we don't need to see a couple (w/ Jace) in the finals.
  2. She Who Makes Others Cry Mommy
    -------
  3. Skullclamp - I see simplicity being the greatest advantage here.
  4. Sol Ring - Better overall tempo bump.
    -------
  5. Scion of the Ur-Dragon - Because the good robotic generals should stick to being artifacts.
  6. Edric, Spymaster of Trest - I vote for the sneakier of the two in this Thieves Guild dispute.
    -------
  7. Ajani Vengeant - Can literally one-shot JTMS. o_o
  8. Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker - It takes more than fancy gear and flying soldiers to slay this dragon.

Bob
Birds of Paradise something that costs 15 mana shouldn't get this far
Black Lotus because power nine
moxen, because power nine
Scion of the Ur-Dragon , one of the most powerful generals
Edric, Spymaster of Trest
Jace, the Mind Sculptor and Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker , because we all want to see Jace vs. Bolas

  1. Stoneforge Mystic wins because she actively makes you win rather than just passively helping you win
  2. Birds of Paradise win because they're just so much more important to the game at its core

  1. Black Lotus wins because Skullclamp is broken in a much more distasteful way
  2. Sol Ring wins this time because of how it's been able to come back to so many players with the rise of Commander and the special box sets

  1. Scion of the Ur-Dragon wins because YEEAH BOYEE
  2. Edric, Spymaster of Trest wins because I'm apparently the only person on the planet who doesn't know someone with a good Thraximundar deck

  1. Jace, the Mind Sculptor wins because he's the best card
  2. Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker wins because he's the one secretly running this tournament

Bob

BoP

Skullclamp

Sol Ring

Scion of the Ur-Dragon

Thraximundar

Ajani Vengeant

Elspeth, Knight-Errant

Please don't let the super broken cards win. This isn't a battle of raw power; it's a battle of MtG cards, and MtG is supposed to be FUN.

Creatures:

  1. Stoneforge Mystic is just awesome. While Bob gives you card advantage, you don't get to CHOOSE the card you get from him.

  2. Birds of Paradise is essential in a lot of decks (or it was, before Deathrite Shaman ). Emrakul, the Aeons Torn is not.

Artifacts:

  1. Skullclamp gives you raw card advantage. Black Lotus gives you a temporary burst of mana advantage. I think clamp wins.

  2. Tough, tough choice. I choose Sol Ring because it can go in every deck, and a Mox Pearl or what have you would be pretty bad in a deck without it's respective color.

EDH Generals:

  1. I want Scion of the Ur-Dragon to win it all because that would be freaking hilarious.

  2. Thraximundar is one of the best generals ever and is probably the best Voltron besides Zur and Uril.

Planeswalkers:

  1. Ajani Vengeant is beatable, and fun to play against, and fun to play with. Resolving a Jace only feels good once, then you feel like a douche. Also, Jace can't protect himself. ;)

  2. Elspeth, Knight-Errant is my second favorite 'walker behind Liliana of the Veil (may she Rest in Peace ). Bolas is just..meh.

Dark Confidant - Because he was a miracle of card design. Literally pushes the limits of broken, without going beyond them as Stoneforge Mystic does.

Birds of Paradise - Because utility > raw power

Black Lotus - Because if you play T1 win, conditional card advantage is effectively irrelevant.

Sol Ring - The difference between 0 and 1 is not as significant as the difference between 1 and 2.

Zur the Enchanter - Just because prisons are always good, and fun to play (if not play against), whereas dragons are more limited, and still fun to play.

Edric, Spymaster of Trest - Not even a question. Edric is more political, cheaper CMC-wise, more fun, more competitive, etc...

Jace, the Mind Sculptor - As much as I detest the deck on a card that is Jace, the Mind Sculptor , he is just better than Ajani.

Elspeth, Knight-Errant - 2 incredibly useful abilities AT PLUS that lead to an ultimate that wins nearly as hard as Bolas'. Bolas is incredibly good, but Elspeth is cheaper and lends herself to decks that protect her better.
