Also, by taking the Mizzium Skin we are not allowing someone else to hexproof our Stab Wound target.

Never underestimate the power of Ethereal Armor
, yes getting 2 for 1'd is a thing but if you hold it back into the later parts of the game where they used up their removal and you have gotten 1 or 2 of Stab Wound
out as well as any other enchants we pick up it can be scary.
....That said lol +1 Golgari Guildgate

Looking at what we have so far we're primarily W/B with a R splash. I think at this point we need to abandon the blue cards to other players so they aren't swiping our primary colors. Adding 1/1 and first strike for W is a pretty good deal even if we didn't have any other enchantments.

Mana fixing is good, This pack is not. There really in no good pick, so pick the card that makes potential future picks easier

+1 Ethereal Armor
We were considering this pick when we first got this pack and it tabeled. I'm ready to give it a shot. Our two Stab Wound
s are even able to support it to some extent. Also, there is a potential of grabbing One Thousand Lashes
, Gift of Orzhova
, Holy Mantle
or Debtor's Pulpit
in the next pack.
The only other card worth any consideration is Golgari Guildgate
, but we already have one and I don't think that we'll be picking that many green cards in GTC, where we're mainly going to focus on Orzhov cards.

never underestimate blue in this block. just won a tourney yesterday with what everyone thought was just crappy blue cards that wouldn't amount to anything in limited. 3 colours is far more than viable, and can actually build a better deck than just 2 colours. Even if we just splash it, we'll be doing fine. It was actually a weird tourney, i had a 60 card deck, and a whole bunch of draw/deck thinning cards, along with defenders Doorkeeper , and Axebane Guardian
May 10, 2013 9:52 a.m.
There isn't a ton of removal in this format, and with Stab Wound s there is a potential. First strike is also great in any race.
May 10, 2013 9:55 a.m.
Awesome and cheap, fits our color (so far) and besides, will profit from any stab wounded fatty out there. Even if it's a removal magnetic, i think it's our best pick here.If not, Golgari Guildgate would be fair at this point.

+1 Ethereal Armor !!!
Sick table. With 2 Stab Wound s and a bunch of enchantments to come, it's definitely playable. And extortable.
Woulda been amazing on a Tower Drake ... :P

+1 Ethereal Armor
I wanted it earlier and I still want it now.
May 10, 2013 10:22 a.m.
We probably won't be playing it, but we definitely don't want it showing up against us.
May 10, 2013 10:22 a.m.
Spawn of Rix Maadi has already been chosen. look at the bottom part
May 10, 2013 10:22 a.m.
Also. Proof that Elaine and I draft similarly (if not identically).
May 10, 2013 10:22 a.m.
+1 Mizzium Skin
for the reasons stated by psychoza and because we might run Lobber Crew and don't want them destroy it before it has a chance to do anything
May 10, 2013 10:24 a.m.
and Golgari Guildgate is even more eh. like elaine said, there are literally guildgates in all of the DGM packs. we can grab mana fixing later.

Ethereal Armor is on-color, but is kind of crap unless we find more enchantments (Gift of Orzhova). Mizzium Skin is semi-playable in blue, but nothing to get excited about. The gate provides decent mana fixing if we do end up going Junk, and because of how many cards (especially in DGM) care about gates, it's worth picking up early. Yes we "can grab mana fixing later".... but do we want to? We can grab it now, over three other nigh-unplayable cards, and have something that's solidly playable and allows us to splash green in case we open a bomb or synergizes with any gatekeeper-like things we may draft.

I'm sorry, but there is absolutely no good reason to hate draft Mizzium Skin . Only one player will get it, and he or she probably won't main deck it. Even if they do board it in, they have less than a 50% chance of seeing it during the game. It is not worth worrying about.
In my experience, cutting either Black and White will be far more valuable to us than grabbing a 4th color sideboard card. Even if we don't play the Armor, the pick helps us keep people out of our primary colors.
May 10, 2013 11:04 a.m.
Keep with color. Mizzium Skin would be great, and I'd even be tempted to draft it (if only as hate). However, I seem to have terrible luck with this card in particular, so I'm biased.

In Pack 3 everyone will be scrambling to draft fixing. By drafting some gates early, we can get some decent cards while everyone else is drafting gates.

Skin is terrible, and we already have one Golgari Guildgate. Armour is actually a great value card and we may even mainboard it.
May 10, 2013 11:15 a.m.
I have used Mizzium Skin to much success. Not sure why all the hate on it. I won't be upset with another white card pushing us further to orzhov but I will keep my +1 to Mizzium Skin and not do the whole "switching sides" method.

I'm tempted to vote for the Gate - picking up one now in a weak pack means we have two already if we want them down the road and we don't have to waste a better pick on one if we suddenly decide we want them. But I think the armor has more value for us.
psychoza - Skin is getting hate because it's honestly not a good card. I've no doubt you've gotten good mileage out of it, and it's easy to see how it could be useful, but the same can be said of Fog , which is also not really worth a slot in a deck. It's so low-impact and reactionary. I will never start a Skin maindeck, and will only bring it in out of the board if my opponent has tons of removal spells; otherwise, I'm always going to want, say, a creature or something else that actually has an impact on its own. Skin's value is far too dependent on what your opponent is doing.

+1 Ethereal Armor . It came all the way back around, no one is running auras besides us. We can start to get some consistency now.
May 10, 2013 12:55 p.m.
It's cheap so it works great for extort, and first strike can be a great bonus by itself. At a cost of 1, I think it has decent value even without other auras on our board.

"I'm tempted to vote for the Gate - picking up one now in a weak pack means we have two already if we want them down the road and we don't have to waste a better pick on one if we suddenly decide we want them"
That is why I voted for it. When DMG rolls around and everyone is scrambling to fix the colors of their decks, we can just grab bombs all day.
Maybe the armor will help us a little, but the reason we didn't want it the first time is how it DOES NOT work well with our Stab Wound s. if we stab something and that creature doesn't die. when we attack with our armored up dude they will gladly chump into our guy thus removing one of our auras and weakening the Ethereal Armor . that negative synergy, plus the potential for a two for one makes it not a favorable pick. the Golgari Guildgate will only make future picks easier for us. allowing us to possibly make a much stronger deck.

+1 Ethereal Armor there are a lot of enchantments in this block and it could never hurt to try and assemble Voltron
May 10, 2013 2:44 p.m.
Nobody's going to pass up on bombs to pick up guildgates. It makes no sense to take a guildgate over a playable card now, it's still pack 1.

+1 Ethereal Armor
.
A second guildgate seems like a really strong pick, but the Armor is a bomb card. At worst it's "permanent" +1/1 and First Strike. For one mana that's a good deal. We may yet find more playable enchantments as well.
There will always be more fixing, and we're not even sure which colors we're fixing into yet.
May 10, 2013 3:20 p.m.
I'm a little torn, but I think manna fixing early is important so that we don't end up missing some of the bombs we want to see in Dragon's Maze.
May 10, 2013 3:50 p.m.
If you have never played this draft format, you have no idea how important guildgates and mana fixing is, It is the most important thing you could possibly have, and more is always better. You can always get more strong cards later, but only so many gates.
May 10, 2013 3:55 p.m.
NobodyPicksBulbasaur says... #45
Some points we should discuss...
I agree that the gates are extremely important. I would like to see us run 4 or 5 in the deck. The problem is if we "waste" a pick on a gate that's not in our colors, then we missed the chance to take another decent card.
In this case, the decent card is in colors we've already taken, and the gate matches one of our colors. If we take a second Golgari gate, will we be obligated to go into green? Is that a bad thing?
These are all questions we should consider. Color fixing is amazing. Forcing a deck is bad.

MagnorCriol says... #46
All very good points, landgrafb. That's all exactly why I teetered on the edge of voting for the Gate. I still feel like the Armor has more upside - because it's a defensible inclusion no matter what deck we're in as long as white is a main color, and if we do get a lot of enchantments, it's quite strong - but getting a Gate now so we're not stuck in a bad spot later when we have to choose between a solid spell and a gate because we just want another gate has a lot of merit.
May 10, 2013 4:17 p.m.
While we need Guildgates, we don't need to draft 2 this early.
As long as we grab one gate in Gatecrash and two more in Dragon's Maze if we need them we should be fine I'd imagine, and that should let us beat all the people that procrastinated.
One guildgate early on is fine, but we don't even know for certain what colors we are going to run or if we are going to need that many, and I'd prefer not to have too many gates that essentially act as a basic land that comes into play tapped with the gate tag if we can wait and take a gate that can help us fix multiple colors later on instead of trying to guess our third.
Ethereal Armor is a potential bomb and one that might be useful since it seems like people are more then happy to pass enchantments and we already have two that could be used to pump if we are using them for a bleed strategy.

I see your point about the anti-synergy between Ethereal Armor and Stab Wound , but I think the buff and first strike are just as relevant for blockers. We turn their Centaur Healer into a 1/1 Sleeper Agent and we won't need to block it. Instead we enchant Armory Guard making it a 4/7 roadblock for any other attackers they want to send at us. Even Concordia Pegasus becomes a 3/5 in the sky.
In fact, if I'd thought this card would wheel, I might have been more positive about the Tower Drake . Oh wells... :(
May 10, 2013 5:35 p.m.
I think that if we pick up some Rakdos Drake s in DGM packs ahead, we could really make use of Ethereal Armor . it also lets us make better use of our detain creatures to push some sweet damage. also, other enchantments like Madcap Skills and friends can be relatively easy to pick up in future packs.
May 10, 2013 5:46 p.m.
Very torn between the guildgate and the armor. I love the idea of getting 2 usable gates of the same colors. But we're not as sure about green as we are with white. I think we've let too much usable green pass us by. The Stab Wound
synergy is nice, but I expect that we may not pick up any more enchantments.
Ethereal Armor
could also make our Azorius Arrester
a somebody if he gets 2-dropped for no good use. Though the gate does help the Ogre. Dammit, this one is tricky.
May 10, 2013 5:59 p.m.
+1 Ethereal Armor .
Playable for us, or an opponent. Won't make me cry if we don't use it; might make me cry if they do.

+1 Mizzium Skin
Not impressed with what is left in the pack. Don't want the Ethereal Armor to be 2-for-1ed. I like Mizzium Skin as a cheap anti removal (effectively a counterspell). The Search Warrant would work with our Lobber Crew and we could see their hand/gain life. I personally think removal/anti-removal is key in this limited format.
