Two altered doom blades. I thought I said it in the video.

I really enjoyed this. As a G/W mid player, Jund builds scare me haha. You were right in that they beat up on builds like my own. When you were asking for suggestions, did you mean for other deck techs? Or just any sort of content? I'd be more than willing to try my hand at those alt blades!

Loved the video article man. I've always wondered what made Jund tick, and now I know- and more importantly, how to stop it.
Question: do you usually use Magma Jet on mana dorks?

NIce video, great start for an article! what are you planning on next, budget decks?

Spootyone I mean suggestions for anything that you think should be covered in magic. Although I am not very well versed in EDH or pauper, so I will probably shy away from those.
GoldGhost012. I do use magma jet on dorks. If they are not there, I go for walkers, if they are not there either, I go for the dome. Literally in that order.
Droxium I don't know yet, we will have to see. Though I have been thinking about one on how to build a tier 1 deck (with the expensive cards) on a budget, for all you college dudes out there.

Indeed, what about us? We (or at least I) would need like a budget budget version.
November 7, 2013 11:18 p.m.
I can think of two things that I know I, personally, would love to see from someone here on TO.
The first is someone to pay attention to GPs and other upper-tier competitions who can give recaps of the events after they've occurred with the possibility (perhaps) of an explanation of the winner's deck. This could help people keep up on what's popular in the meta.
The second thing is similar to the first, and I think there was discussion of some sort of thing like this before so I may be wrong to suggest this, but a collection of the main decks that are in the meta game from time to time, maybe once or twice for each set. This would help newer players or players that are just coming back to the game.
Again, I'm not entirely sure which direction you wanted to take this, but I figured I'd add something to the pot.
November 7, 2013 11:20 p.m.
I liked how you talked a bit about esper and some of their weaknesses. I'd really like to know more about how to beat them XD
November 8, 2013 12:57 a.m.
Making a budget version of a list (especially for Standard) isn't a difficult a task. You just need to rule out what you can't afford and look for similarly functioning threats to fill in the gaps. Desecration Demon and Stormbreath Dragon are high-price things, so you would start by looking that hit hard. Deadbridge Goliath , for example, is a good alternative that comes out on turn-3 with ramp and provides you with some late-game value. Duress can take over Thoughtseize 's job pretty efficiently on a budget, too.

Subbed to your channel and am looking forward to more stuff from you. I would like to see you take a deck and play test it vs your current build for the format. Do like one or two a month.

It would be nice to have at least a vague summary in the initial post.
Like "I'm talking about a deck" or something.
Can't watch it atm because I'm at work, so no further critique.

@gnarlicide - In response to your shying away from EDH, how would you feel about someone making a guest episode on one of their decks?

nice video dude, really makes me want to play jund
November 8, 2013 6:46 a.m.
Nice video, gotta say with Slaughter Games I personally wouldnt name Sphinx's Revelation and thats me playing Esper as my main. Taking the four would suck and losing the life gain is the biggest reason for that. But Id recommend taking a wincon. I run only two Elspeth in my deck and if they are taken out on turn 3 or 4 then I dont have a whole lot of answers to get to with the Revelations.

lets see a breakdown of this brew.

Awesome video! I second RussischerZar in that it would be nice to give the video some structure and an intro. No complaints, otherwise. Great stuff!
November 8, 2013 6:05 p.m.
kanofudo, the way you beat esper is you run 4 Burning Earth and 4 Destructive Revelry mainboard and run gruul devotion. This will cripple any esper player, as you can make them take heaps of damage to play anything. Aetherling will essentially damage both players, sphinx's revelation lifegain is nullified, and Detention Sphere s are reveled destructively. Also mainboard Mistcutter Hydra as esper's main answers are black removal options and verdicts. Also run Mizzium Mortars for bloodbaron, and when you see ghost daddy, then you Clan Defiance or something like that. Yeah, against pretty much anything but esper you're gonna lose, but you'll at least know you've beat esper :D or you can run Erebos, God of the Dead to crush their lifegain effects.

I am planning on doing a few things with this series, not just deck tech. I was thinking about discussing budget tips, how to cross over from standard to eternal formats and maybe some interactions that are bananas.
This just happens to be the first and easiest idea that I had. To test the waters. So far, it has been receiving quite well.
November 10, 2013 10:14 p.m.
Me? Troll? Never... lol but on a slightly serious note it might not be a bad idea. I was first taught in Legacy, and had issues transitioning into Standard. I don't think I'm the only person that this has happened for, but it certainly is less common.
November 11, 2013 4:04 p.m.
gnarlicide says... #29
Honestly, if you start in legacy, you have kind of a leg up in standard. Combat trick wise, that is. The drawback would be that you see all of the cards with weak power levels (comparatively) and want to bang your head against the wall.
I know that I have problems with that. So much so, jumping from eternal formats back to standard, that am considering quitting standard all together. I just need to find people that are willing to buy all my standard stuff.
November 11, 2013 4:09 p.m.
fluffybunnypants says... #30
I've considered quitting Standard for the same reason. Whenever I play Modern or Legacy I always feel disappointed when I have to go back to playing Standard. It's just not the same.
There are a lot more interactions you need to think about in eternal formats as well. So, if you learned on Modern or Legacy, I think you have a leg up in terms of strategy because of how you have to think in order to be successful in both of those formats.
November 11, 2013 4:19 p.m.
I think calling Elspeth, Sun's Champion with Slaughter Games , or even AEtherling , is the better choice. Most U/W and Esper control decks nowadays only run 2 Elspeths and MAYBE 1 AEtherling . Without, those cards, the absolute only other way they can even win the game is by getting Jace, Architect of Thought up to ultimate and killing you with your own stuff.
Revelation sucks to play against, but with the small amount of win-conditions they're playing, you could just force them out of the game.

gnarlicide says... #32
@zandl, I feel you there. I was playing against an esper build that ran 4x Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver , 2x Elspeth and 1 aetherling. I played slaughter games, targeting elspeth, knowing that her second ability would ruin me. Ashiok wasn't an issue, I killed two by that point with abrupt decay and I had two more decays and 3x heros downfall in the deck, that I am sure would come up. The second slaughter games, I targeted aetherling, which was in his hand. I got made fun of for a while, because everyone was all like, "you're gonna lose because you didn't target revelation." It was a slow game 3, and went to turns, he had more life but also was in danger of milling himself. Dude scooped with two cards left in his library.
November 11, 2013 4:39 p.m.
Exactly. Everyone shits bricks over Revelation, but if your opponent has nothing to draw into, isn't that just better?
November 11, 2013 4:41 p.m.
gnarlicide says... #34
That's kind of where I'm at. Revelation is just a setback for me... Prolonging the inevitable. Taking aetherling or their walkers is more effective. Don't get me wrong, I occasionally have 3x Skullcrack in my sideboard depending on what week it is and whether everyone will play UW or esper. That shit is funny to me... They always tap out for rev and get cracked. Sure draw 7, but you better pull a blocker out of your ass.

Would you consider guest appearances in future for the deck-tech side of things? I would really enjoy doing something like this.
November 12, 2013 4:11 p.m.
gnarlicide says... #36
Maybe, in the later future. Especially for EDH type things. I would have to figure out how it would work.
By the way, I am going to announce the winner next week for the doom blades when the next episode is released. So keep them comments coming for your chance to win them!

@jibjamborie nice.
I'm also running Jund, only an aggro variant:
November 13, 2013 3:04 p.m.
gnarlicide says... #38
yeah I have seen your build... I like it. I was almost tempted to try it out, but my local meta also runs a lot of aggro and speedy type decks. With that said I opted to get more value creatures and a hefty amount of removal for their threats. Between aggro, MBD and esper, there really isn't that much room to try Jund aggro. Although, I am inclined to see how well Exava, Rakdos Blood Witch would fare in this deck. How has she worked with you?
November 13, 2013 5:21 p.m.
I love this deck, I can't wait to face this sometime. What do you think the biggest weakness of this deck is? Just aggro decks you have some removal, so would it be the Million and one One drop in a mono red deck be the biggest problem?
November 17, 2013 5:07 p.m.
gnarlicide says... #40
The issues that I have are not really the aggro decks, but when my opponents play a lot of removal also. Because this deck doesn't play a ton of creatures, if you have a hand full of kill spells, I tend to suffer a little. Esper control is the biggest culprit of this. Some esper builds put me at a 50/50 chance of turning the game around. Which are pretty bad odds in my opinion. My best chance at defeating esper is post board in games 2 and 3.
November 17, 2013 5:13 p.m.
Thanks. Hopefully you can make this deck bigger because there are way to many RDW running around, and they just burn me up inside and out.

And the winner is....
(drum roll please)
GoldGhost012 !!!! Come on down..... to my page and send me your email. I will get with you ASAP and ask for your address so I can send you the two doom blades.
With that said... we are going to discuss budget magic. Not just budget magic, like "i got bills and kids and shit" but budget like, "I am too fucking young for a job and my parents don't give me an allowance" budget. Look for the video in about a week, (meaning next sunday-ish) so you can get sweet tips on how to play a bad ass deck on the dimes that you find under your couch, (no shit, I built a modern deck a while ago that I only paid $2.50 out of pocket).
Stay tuned, and thanks for the support!

actiontech, you may have seen this, but provided a good breakdown of why this deck is worth the risk in today's standard... And wouldn't you know it? It won SCG providence a couple weeks later, (not me, but another guy with a VERY similar build)
Good luck bro.
