Congratulations to those who advanced! Win once more and you’re in the prize support! As we move forward, know that I’ll be able to work more diligently on the second half of the first round. I was caught up in some things outside of TappedOut and several days went by without me having access to my computer (or internet, for that matter), but things should be more normal in the coming weeks.
That being said, I have a lot of neat ideas for the future of my article offerings, both for the Challenge series and my other ventures. As the series progresses, though, be on the lookout for some added surprises and write-ups to accompany the main articles as we surge ahead.

GG ProfessorDucky and GL. Will have to reevaluate for the next one. Great article zandl, looks like a lot of time was put into this, and it certainly paid off. The spoiler buttons keeps it all nice and neat without having to scroll a mile through text.
GL to all that qualified for next round, BLNT to those like myself that didn't make it.

Well done Gearhead93: at least if my deck flops there will be a GW deck in the next round (as we are the only people in those colours).
Best of luck to everyone in round two and the second half of round one!

It has come to my attention that I may have been a bit hasty in my write-ups by assigning a male gender to all participants when referring to them in the results. Because Magic is all-inclusive and we love our badass, spell-slingin' ladies, I'm going to be referring to the decks themselves as the objects being described in all future write-ups in lieu of the creators. I see this as a benefit for two primary reasons: (1) I don't have to worry about misrepresenting anyone in my articles and (2) each deck-list itself (and not its creator) is what's actually being tested and criticized.
Onward!

Sweet, moving on to round two! That game one of my match sounded insane, turn four win with some commons and uncommons. What a draw. Good luck to those in the second batch of round one!

GG robo12385! Sounds like you put up a hell of a fight.
April 26, 2016 3:44 p.m.
Ah. them sick topdecks. sounds like it was pretty close for most of the match, good luck DarkLaw! I hope your zombies get some good wins.
April 26, 2016 4:10 p.m.
Grantley91 Sorry to see you go so soon. Your deck seems like it was a very hard matchup for me.

Thanks Zandl, I agree the article layout is convenient and tidy. I was really worried about my deck, thanks for a good match parker. Excited to see the next article.
April 26, 2016 4:35 p.m.
Good games Seavywolf. I think that matchup is relatively in my favor, your deck is trying to grind it's opponent into dust which is rough against a bunch of 1/1's. Can't wait for the next round.

Beautiful commentary. Very nicely done for the sheer volume you had to do. I'm excited for round 2 already.

Do you know about when the next when will come out?
April 26, 2016 5:57 p.m.
GGs Blueberrypop. It pretty much played out how I figured. I built the deck to play reasonably well against both aggro and control so I'll lose a game or two against both but not get 0-2ed.
April 26, 2016 6 p.m.
incredible work on the write up zandl, very clear and well commentated! A shame I won't be heading into the next round but hey, I love to durdle and durdle vs aggro was probably not going to work out. Very cool, had lots of fun and will be rooting for my opponent to win the whole thing!
April 26, 2016 9:47 p.m.
haha thanks DarksteelBadger. good luck to you in the second half of round 1!
it was a close one Quarion65. aggro is definitely the harder match up for me, and your Topplegeists seemed like they did a ton of work. I'm glad I got my few removal spells when I did. Next time man.

Sweet article! Liking the format of it.
Sorry I had to be the one booting you out of the challenge, 1234. Reflector Mage is sweeeeeet tho.
@ToolmasterOfBrainerd I got there! Good luck for your match.

Once again zandl, thank you SO much for doing this. I know it is an overwhelming amount of effort to put in.
And thanks fastjaguar3 for an awesome match-up! I'm pretty sure it was just a luck of the draw. Both our decks do super well with certain cards and seem to falter when they aren't there. Loved the fact it was a tiebreaker! Those are my favorite matches!

gg JerichoDarkstar, good luck for your deck through the upcoming rounds.
April 28, 2016 12:44 a.m.
Glad to see the UB Control decks performing well! Makes me happy. It's what I'd have built if I'd caught wind of this soon enough.
April 28, 2016 1:07 a.m.
GG Grotski! I wasnt sure how the deck would play out against you and a big thanks to Zandl for hosting this challenge!
May 1, 2016 5:02 p.m.
The way the information is represented doesn't help me in any way. Am I supposed to read all the match descriptions to figure out who won and which kind of decks are good?
Could you at least make a graph showing simply the deck archetype vs another, color coding the winning and loser?
May 2, 2016 1:11 p.m.
Awenna,
Yes, that's exactly what you're supposed to do.
Of course, if you'd like to be helpful, you could make the graph yourself and then share it with others :-)
May 2, 2016 1:16 p.m.
clayperce Exactly my point that going these through is too much work =)
May 2, 2016 3:16 p.m.
Zandl might do something like that at the end (as doing one for every stage would take horrifically long). It would be interesting to see the percentages for each archetype - especially if a heavily played deck like UR prowess or BR madness ends up with a sucky win rate.
May 2, 2016 3:54 p.m.
Nothing could be gained from seeing a graph like that after just one round of single-elimination. There's too much variance to be able to declare a certain archetype as "good" until probably the final round.
May 2, 2016 6:22 p.m.
Just an update for you all:
Progress is being made. I'm spending a large part of today and tomorrow working on the challenge. I hate giving out due dates, but you can reasonably expect "Round 1, Part 2" within a few days.
That being said, the rounds after this one should go much faster and the frequency of the articles being posted will pick up.
May 5, 2016 5:15 p.m.
Woohoo, can't wait to see who I face next. Thanks for the time and effort zandl
Argy says... #1
Thanks zandl.
Tough break, Alfesio. I think my deck got a bit lucky with draw.
