Statistics

As promised, here are a couple of charts to help you digest the numbers of what’s going on here.

From the graphs, we can see that the Blue, Black, and Colorless decks have hung on tight while the Green, White, and Red ones have begun to take a backseat. Will this trend continue or will the more aggressive colors prevail?

Pairings have been made using the best random number generator on the internet.

Third round’s matches:

Holtzman says... #1

Though I'd love to move on to the next round it sounds like you got some names mixed up and SwaggyMcSwagglepants won the round

May 27, 2016 9:46 p.m.

Yea @zandl I ran the Orzhov lifegain deck in our matchup. From the commentary, it sounds like I won, but I could be wrong.

@Holtzman gg, your list was a strong list, and I definitely considered running a similar deck in my brewing process. It gave me a sweat thinking of the theoretical matchup between our lists!

May 27, 2016 10:09 p.m.

Holtzman says... #3

I play tested it a few times and you win most the time. If I get lucky on the Tightening Coils you were in trouble otherwise I couldn't get a good clock on your incremental life gain/drain. I don't think there was a worse match up for me to get.(though the stax decks had me worried too)

May 27, 2016 10:27 p.m. Edited.

zandl says... #4

Hm. Okay. I'll check it out when I get home later. Sorry about that.

May 27, 2016 10:29 p.m.

tempest says... #5

oh wow. i didn't think the games would be so heavily skewed in my favor. good game jellowsmurf. i guess zendikar loses without the gatewatch XD

oh and zandl, how are the color percentages determined?

May 27, 2016 10:45 p.m. Edited.

zandl says... #6

Monocolored decks count as 1, dual-colored decks count as .5 for each color. Then the number for each color is divided by the number of decks in the round to find a percentage.

May 27, 2016 11:22 p.m.

tempest says... #7

wait. so does mine count toward black and green even though the majority of it is colorless because of devoid?

May 27, 2016 11:24 p.m.

zandl says... #8

Yeah. Devoid spells still have traits and characteristics of the colors they "negate", so they're still green and black cards at heart.

May 28, 2016 12:05 a.m.

zandl says... #9

Mistakes fixed. Thanks for the heads-up, y'all. <3

May 28, 2016 12:27 a.m.

Completely missed Thraben Inspector, which was probably a better call than a random 2/1. May have mattered to get to better cards, but oh well.

May 28, 2016 12:27 a.m.

Argy says... #11

I thought I had that match, from all my playtesting.

Sounds as though my deck got colour screwed.

Oh well, good luck with the rest of your matches, Dalektable_

May 28, 2016 2:22 a.m.

amerishin says... #12

@TristanTaylorsVoice I was nervous going against your deck. It seemed more consistant than mine when i tested it; you just flooded the board with white weenie beaters. Just glad we had a good ol' fashioned slug out. No one flooded/screwed out of the games, so pretty happy regardless of the results that we had a close finishing nail biter for the last match.

@Zandl Thanks for all the work you've been putting in on these its been fun reading the different match results.

May 28, 2016 2:42 a.m.

Nickick says... #13

ggs CaptainLick As soon as I saw that your creatures were all colourless monstrosities I felt like it wasn't going to end well...

May 28, 2016 4:40 a.m.

Dylan says... #14

May 28, 2016 12:17 p.m.

@CRKFIEND whelp. Your deck looks really good. Gonna have to do some playtesting to build (or lose) confidence in this matchup...

May 28, 2016 12:52 p.m.

Dylan says... #16

I love this challenge zandl thank you so much for all the things you do to allow the tappedout community to come together for some fun challenges

May 28, 2016 2:04 p.m.

JKLawson89 says... #17

Really confused about my matches...I won 2-0 but died via Alms of the Vein at 1 life holding 2 Stasis Snares and a Silkwrap in game 1...? :P

May 28, 2016 9:47 p.m.

zandl says... #18

Wow. I apparently shouldn't be doing this late at night anymore. I'll update it soon, but you won the round 2-1. That part of the article evidently didn't make it in.

May 28, 2016 9:59 p.m.

Ostrichman01 says... #19

EludeMerlange, gg to you as well. Your deck seems really strong, I hope you go far in this challenge.

May 29, 2016 7:37 a.m.

Dalektable says... #20

Argeaux Good games, I must have gotten lucky that match up seemed abysmal.

Excited to be moving on to Round Three!

May 29, 2016 8:52 a.m.

Volvary says... #21

Sorry to see you go, Crayfish. Your deck was something I didn't expect to race. I got to admit, I got scared when I saw the matchup.

Good luck DarkLaw.

Mortem says... #22

PhnxLdr

Woah... are we going to have a Rise from the Tides mirror match? This is going to be insane!

Also, good games, DominusMine. They sound like they were tense.

May 29, 2016 8:56 p.m.

JKLawson89 says... #23

Thank you zandl :D.

No complaints, was just a small confusion :).

SwaggyMcSwagglepants - Well done, I hope we do not play because I'm worried

May 30, 2016 1:43 p.m.

Dylan says... #25

JKLawson89 - Best Of luck

May 30, 2016 1:44 p.m.

Dylan says... #26

zandl are the finals going to be best of 5 matches?

May 30, 2016 9:20 p.m.

zandl says... #27

Negatory. The final round will consist of 7 decks in a round robin bracket, meaning each deck plays each other. Best 2 out of 3 games. The deck with the highest game-win percentage at the end is the victor.

May 30, 2016 9:37 p.m.

Dylan says... #28

that's even more awesome, thanks

May 30, 2016 10:01 p.m.

zandl says... #29

Agreed.

May 30, 2016 10:04 p.m.

amerishin says... #30

Oh wow zandl! That sounds like a lot of fun (and a lot of work for you lol)!

May 31, 2016 3:11 a.m.

zandl says... #31

Meh. It's really not that many matches. It's 21, or something. That's still less than half of what Round 1 was (and explains why Round 1 almost took a full month).

May 31, 2016 3:50 a.m.

DarkLaw says... #32

Blue is the most popular color left. Life is good. Though let's face it, it's pretty much just Rise that's carrying the color. Mirror matches will be interesting, a match that I'd like to play myself.

More than anything, I think my deck might lose to a lack of consistency.

GL Volvary. Let's see how many Village Messenger  Flip s are drawn.

May 31, 2016 2:31 p.m.

DarkLaw says... #33

Oh yeah, I don't know if there's an edit button somewhere, but do you play with the assumption that you know the other deck's blowout cards and play around them? Only that could be critical in some matchups, especially the aforementioned Rise matchup.

May 31, 2016 2:39 p.m.

zandl, you have done an amazing job with this. I want to thank you again for all the hard work you put into this. It's a great way to bring the community together.

And to Wee_Dragonaut, I can't wait to go up against you. This is gonna be a tense match-up, and I wish you nothing but the best of luck :D

May 31, 2016 8:23 p.m.

Volvary says... #35

DarkLaw, I didn't expect that reference. It's true I did win a match on the back of a pair of Messengers and a pacifist+blade.

June 1, 2016 9:37 a.m.

Wee_Dragonaut says... #36

JerichoDarkstar, I am probably going to die, but at least I will die to an Izzet deck!

June 1, 2016 5:38 p.m.

jellowsmurf says... #37

tempest Yea I'm REALLY late lol. Sorry. Anyways, congrats on the win! I wish I could've at least taken one, but oh well it happens. Best of luck in the rest of the competition!
