Every now and then I come across a card that very few people are currently using in Standard, that seems excellent to me.
It is usually one that fits a particular deck, and makes it work so much better.
I will tell other people about it and they kind of shrug it off.
However, I will still champion the card, because I see it work at tournament level.
I'm going to start a series of articles called "Argy champions", where I put forward a case for these type of cards.
It might let people take a second look at a card that will make their deck work better.
At the very least, it will give us something to discuss.
The first cab off the rank is Metalspinner's Puzzleknot.
Most people are using Treasure Map Flip for draw, which is excellent, but overlooking this little beauty.
It gives you earlier draw, than Treasure Map Flip, which can be very helpful, particularly if piloting a Control deck.
I also like the fact that you can choose to only lose 1 life to draw a card. There are other spells like Painful Lesson that hit you for 2 life, and therefore can't be played if your Opponent has you down to 2 life.
Metalspinner's Puzzleknot is great to leave on the field if you want to trigger Unlicensed Disintegration.
It is also excellent for lifting your permanent count if you're trying to get the City's Blessing.
I believe the best deck for it is Control that has access to , but not .
I've been using it in a brew.
A lot of people fear that it will be destroyed by Abrade, but after playing it at Showdown during the Rivals of Ixalan season, I have found that people don't consider it enough of a threat to Abrade.
If you need to generate Treasures, for something like Marionette Master, then Treasure Map Flip is better. This one is excellent for the situations I have outlined above.
That's the first card I want to champion. Feel free to discuss your thoughts about it.
