MTG Combo: Curiosity + Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind

With Curiosity on Niv-Mizzet the Firemind, you can tap Niv to draw a card, deal 1 damage to an opponent with Niv's triggered ability, and draw a card with Curiosity's triggered ability. This lets you deal near infinite damage to an opponent. You can stop the combo by dealing 1 damage to a creature or yourself.

Just to elaborate on the whole Curiosity + Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind situation.... I did run run it originally, but both cards need eachother to be great... and I don't run tutors in here - leaving fate to decide what I draw. I find that Niv and Curiosity are a very unfun combo, and people panic when they see him hit the board. I cut them both because I just don't want to go down that avenue of play.

MoonTurtle7 Amazing! Thank you for your help and suggestions, infinite combos are the reason I have been working really hard on this deck recently. I have friends who can combo off by turn 3 or 4. I do have a question though: with that infinite combo Curiosity + Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind Wouldn't I just mill myself without a card that I could use to shuffle my hand into my library? Everytime Niv-Mizzet deals damage, I draw a card, and everytime I draw a card, Niv-Mizzet deals 1 damage to target creature or opponent, so it doesn't stop unlike Midnight Guard + Presence of Gond where I would chose how many times I could tap for the 1/1 elf warrior. Is that correct?

Haha just realized Curiosity + Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind is a semi-infinite combo if you have more cards in your library than opponents have life.

It's important to note that running Nekusar doesn't allow for much freedom in deck construction. I'd say that over half of most Nekusar decks are identical due to his specific play style. The majority of the deck is tasked with "wheeling" (Wheel of Fortune-like effects), using the constant hand cycling to inflict pain or gain advantage, and controlling the board state to achieve these other two goals.

You do have some freedom in deciding whether you want go infinite with something like Curiosity + Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind or combo off (not infinite) with Mind Over Matter. Nekusar also works well with Infect, but that is another choice that you'll have to make depending on your group.

I'd be happy to lend a hand if you want to start looking at Nekusar as a commander. I've been playing him for a while so I do have some experience with this type of deck.

tkizzle: Thanks for the comment! I'll definitely consider adding Steely Resolve in! Putrid Imp is there as a follow up after the Curiosity + Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind combo. It's a cheap way to dump the necessary pieces into the grave to start the Animate Dead + Worldgorger Dragon combo.

Hope I helped!

I don't attack with Niv...?

I just tap him.

Curiosity + Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind

Being recurred with Goryo's Vengeance gives Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind haste. Use his activated ability with Curiosity attached for infinite triggers and win.

And I can go off on his turn. I could go off at the beginning of combat if I felt like it, after my opponent tapped out for precombat main spells.
