Aiming for about 10-15 archetypes with overlap, around 64 cards per colour.

  • RE - Reanimator
  • WW - White Weenie
  • AGG - Aggro (of all colours), low to the ground fast aggro decks and tempo decks.
  • CON - Control, mostly classical UW control. Jeskai / Grixis overlap. Includes efficient removal spells.
  • ART - Artifacts matters, either artifact tempo or big artifact ramp.
  • ETB - Blink strategy, build around ETB archetype. Includes general good ETB effects and Blink enables
  • ENC - Enchantment Matters. Need to see how much support this archetype has - how does it win?
  • RMP - Ramp archetype. Can include both green ramp as well as artifact ramp. Ramp spells and ramp payoffs.
  • CTR - +1/+1 counters. Need to see how much support there is for this archetype.
  • TKN - Tokens strategy, go wide.
  • MID - Midrange aggro decks, efficient big creatures and enablers.
  • MLL - Self Mill, in combination with reanimator spells, usually. Not straight up 'reanimate a big dude', more value oriented like Dredge, Madness etc effects.
  • LND - Lands Matters archetype? Not sure about support.
  • STR - Storm Combo enablers and finishers. Includes spellslinger finishers
  • SAC - Aristocrats self-sacrifice or Stax-like
  • BLZ - Blitz
  • RDW - Red Deck Wins, Burn or small red aggro

Cards with no tag are usually general purpose.

Thoughts:

  • I want to cut this down to 540 cards exactly.
  • Vow of Flight is fun, but not strong enough?
  • Braids needs more support. Do we go for token makers like Endrek Sehr, Puppet Conjurer. Or for a recursion theme like Gravecrawler, Bloodghast, etc
  • I've killed the Enchantment Matters subtheme, do we want to make that work? What would we need to get that going?
  • +1/+1 Counters theme wasn't strong enough, could give some extra angle to WW, push it into GW. Once we cut down, this might be a fun change / inclusion as a theme again. Works well with artifacts too.
