Description

My main cube doesn't get played much due to my fear of bringing it out in the world (expensive cards). So it interested me to create an unsleeved cube of cards that are around a dollar apiece.

It is yet untested but has a lot of influences from Kranny's cube, cubedrafting.com, and Usman's cube.

Design Notes:

Aggro: Lots of white weenies, red, black, and some green. Limited color committing 2 and 3 drops. Dual color decks encouraged. Lots of cheap finishers, cheap removal/burn. Anthem effects like Glorious Anthem, Bad Moon, and Honor of the Pure. Cheap power-pumping equipment. Cheap evasive creatures (shadow and flying).

Tokens: There are lots of token effects in White, Black and Green. Also Essence of the Wild and Increasing Devotion are interesting options for this strategy!

Counters: There are some cards that care about counters on things like Orochi Hatchery, unleash cards, and undying cards. To go nuts with this you can add some proliferate like Contagion Clasp or even better Contagion Engine!

Discard: There are a lot of black discard effects like Hymn to Tourach, Scepter of Fugue, Hypnotic Specter, and Ravenous Rats. Also some targeted discard like Duress.

Reanimate: Due to budget restrictions, there is no reanimate strategy. Quality reanimation spells are $5+ and the game-ending fatties are usually $5+ too.

Planeswalkers: Due to budget restrictions, there are no planeswalkers in this cube. Maybe one day Tibalt, the Fiend-Bloodedfoil or Chandra Nalaar will be in, but they're too expensive for my self-imposed restrictions.

ETB Effects: Lots of ETB effects with repeatable enablers. Purposeful inclusion of cards with the 'return to your hand' draw back like Horned Kavu. Mistmeadow Witch, Deadeye Navigator, and Glimmerpoint Stag help enable this.

Fixing/Multicolor: The majority of the fixing/multicolor element to this cube is ally-pairs. Due to the limited playable budget options for fixing (pain lands are as good as they come!) I limited the multicolor element. Even so, there was a conscious effort to have easy-to-cast spells.

Control: With the budget restriction, I think control gets hit the hardest. There are only a few sweepers and they're fringe (Kirtar's Wrath and Phyrexian Rebirth aren't too efficient). But there is some repeatable removal, good efficient counters, and big finishers. There is good mill finishers like Keening Stone and Sands of Delirium.

Combos: There are a few 2 and 3 card combos in this cube. Here are the ones I remember.

Midnight Guard or Sunstrike Legionnaire+ Elemental Mastery or Presence of Gond = Infinite Creatures

Thopter Foundry +Sword of the Meek = Lots of creatures / life

Deadeye Navigator + perigrine drake = Infinite Mana

Deadeye Navigator or Mistmeadow Witch + Stonehorn Dignitary = Opponent's don't get an attack step.

Quillspike + Devoted Druid or Wall of Roots = Infinitely large dude

Enduring Renewal + Ornithopter or Memnite + Blasting Station = Infinite Damage
