Description

Brian DeMars calls it "The Danger Room".

Ben Stark calls it "Battle Box".

I call it "Prism".

It's all the same goodness.

The rules are simple:

  • Each player shares a common deck of all the cards, shuffled
  • Each player starts the game with 10 lands in their command zone; 1 of each basic and 1 of each of EITHER ally or enemy guildgates. They may play one land per turn from their command zone in any order they choose.
  • Each player draws 7 cards at the start of the game, max hand size is 9
  • Starting life total is 20.

  • There are a few consequences of these rules:

  • No library manipulation (scry == fateseal; too good. Searching/shuffling is impossible.)
  • Colour balance is nice for making land sequencing interesting, but there's no such thing as colour pie since everyone is effectively 5c midrange

  • My Prism is all commons/uncommons that I liked playing but couldn't find another home for in EDH or Cube. This format is easily the quickest to get rolling and guarantees interesting games!
