Description

Hello everyone,

My first time posting here. With the release of Throne of Eldraine I decided to shake up my old Lorwyn Block cube and create something entirely new! This is my Fairy Tale Cube, a mix of Lorwyn block & Throne of Eldraine.

But why try to shove Thrones into a perfectly good Lorwyn cube?

Well, very quickly after creating my Lorwyn cube there were some obvious imbalances in power for certain archetypes. (RW Giants and Mono-white Kithkin were the go-to strategies for winning while Goblins and Elementals were severely underpowered. All other tribes were fairly well balanced.) So I shelved the project for a later date, the original plan was to pull on various other sets to try and give the under-powered tribes that extra unf they needed.

Then Throne of Eldraine was announced and everything changed.

So, over the past few weeks I have been brewing up this concoction and I am very excited to playtest it. That being said, before I bring this to a pod of 8 I would like to get your thoughts on what I have put together here.

To begin with, yes there are a number of cards in this cube that are not from Lorwyn/ELD. I very sparingly added some extra cantrips and a few pieces of targeted removal to help out some of the new archetypes introduced by ELD. As well as a few dragons to beef those up! Because what fairy tale doesn't have some powerful dragons in it? Same goes with the inclusion of the swords.

Also, the land base is your standard 10 duals, 10 shocks, 10 fetches to allow for maximum multi-color potential!

Here are the main archetypes I am going for (with plenty of opportunities to splash into a third color):

BW Knights

UB Faeries

UG Merfolk/Mill (Yes, I included some choice merfolk from Ixalan to help with the merfolk tribe)

BG Elves

WR Giants

BR Aggro/Burn

RG Midrange

WG Counters

UR Spells/Dragons

WU Control/Flyers

There are a few other archetypes that are possible, but a lot of those cards will likely be highly contested because the cards are useful in any archetype (except for specific pipe dreams like Crumbling Ashes ) and it is unlikely someone will be able to draft these. That being said, I like having them available because a number of folks in my play group like having an archetype to chase outside of the ones I have in place. Those are:

BG -1/-1 Counters

UG Food

WU Stax & Taxes

Mono Red Burn

My questions:

Is there anything I didn't include that you believe I should?

Is there anything I have included that you think will take away from the experience of drafting this cube?

Are there any archetypes that you think need more support?

Any archetypes that you can tell are going to stand out above the rest?

Thank you for any and all feedback. I look forward to reading it.
