Pretty happy with this cube overall. You may want to consider removing Recurring Nightmare , though. It's very, very difficult to answer, and nearly impossible to race/brute-force through. I think it would make the cube more interesting if you didn't have to contend with the one guy who got it every draft, as it forces you into some very narrow answer choices (counter, Pithing Needle ).

Your list is still one of my favorites. Any chance of getting Galepowder Mage in the list? It's really nice in the Recurring Nightmare/Venser the Sojourner Lists.

Can you please post your change log each time you change something because I have the cube in IRL and it is too hard each time to check on the changes.

Thanks in advance

Sorry! I didn't realize the changelogs weren't done anymore. I put up the most recent changes, I can try to go back a little further if you need the Theros update.

Also, I just noticed that people commented on my list. I'll try to answer questions when they come up from now on!

The most recent changes were:

Toxic Deluge in for Black Sun's ZenithTrue-Name Nemesis in for Jace, Architect of Thought

@CharonSquaredGalepowder Mage could definitely make the list. It could easily take the place of Wall of Reverence, which is a bit of a pet card for me.

@adventur_There are a bunch of reasons that I run Recurring Nightmare:1. It gives black more of an identity. Every color has some "build around me" cards, and black should not be an exception.

  1. It's not as powerful in packs 2 or 3. Recurring Nightmare is incredibly powerful, but it's not exactly a card you can just jam into any deck. Your deck has to be built around it.

  2. There are answers to it in many colors. White can beat it with boardsweepers. Blue can counter it. Red ideally can out-aggro it, since Recurring Nightmare takes awhile to set up. Green has hexproof creatures, which can really nerf Recurring Nightmare. (Thrun doesn't exactly care if you're trading in a Shriekmaw for a Nekrataal with your Recurring Nightmare).

Change:

Jace, Architect of Thought in for True-Name Nemesis.

When playing the cube, I didn't like how difficult it was for opponents to interact with TNN. Since I don't run most uninteractive cards as a design philosophy, True-Name Nemesis gets the axe.

Changelog:Brimaz, King of Oreskos --> Ajani, Caller of the Pride

This one was an easy upgrade, I like a low PW count, and Ajani was probably the weakest one still in the cube.

Kiora, the Crashing Wave --> Simic Sky Swallower

Kiora is better than SSS, and there are plenty of other reanimation targets in the cube.

I couldn't find a cut for Courser of Kruphix, if anyone has any suggestions, I'd love to hear them!

Change:

Baleful Strix --> Duskmantle Seer

Both are powerful cards, but Strix is an auto-include in any blue/black deck while Seer is only good in Aggro/Tempo decks. Versatility is really important in 360 cubes, so Strix is the better card for the environment.

You asked for suggestions to what to cut in favor of Courser of Kruphix . I would go with Bramblecrush or Call of the Herd . It's nice that Bramblecrush hits planeswalkers, but in general I would prefer all of the Naturalize creatures you run Acidic Slime , Indrik Stomphowler , Nantuko Vigilante , and Wickerbough Elder . As for Call of the Herd , it's nice card advantage, but I found that paying 7 mana over two turns for a couple 3/3s just wasn't efficient enough.

Courser of Kruphix --> Bramblecrush

The thing I really like about Call of the Herd is that it's splashable. Courser doesn't have a lot of overlap with Bramblecrush, but the destroy non-creature permanent ability is already pretty redundant in green, so I think it's okay to let one of them go.

Changelog:

Gnarled Scarhide --> Sarcomancy

Mana Confluence --> City of Brass

Two fairly straightforward upgrades here.

What about Dack's Duplicate ? Seems pretty sweet to me.

what about some of the conspiracies as well?

June 19, 2014 3:25 p.m.

meep98324 says... #14

Dack's Duplicate is powerful, but not good enough to crack the Izzet top 3.

I didn't put the conspiracies in as a design decision. I feel that a huge part of what makes magic successful is tradeoffs. To put in one card, you need to exclude another. Conspiracies make your deck better with literally no downside, which I don't think improves a 1-on-1 game.

Changelog:

Reclamation Sage --> Indrik Stomphowler

Green has a plethora of 5-drops already, and Sage provides the same effect as Stomphowler for 3 instead of 5.

Goblin Rabblemaster --> Kargan Dragonlord

Rabblemaster is splashable, and I've found that it's rare that Kargan Dragonlord ever makes it to level 4, let alone level 8.

This was a tough round of changes, I would have liked to have found room for one of the 6 CMC artifact creatures potentially. Ajani and Nissa were also both tempting targets, but I am already worried about there being too many planeswalkers, and adding 2 more borderline ones would only exacerbate the problem. Any feedback would be appreciated!
