Description

When I first heard about Cube, I loved the idea from the get-go. Drafting Cube for the first time was an amazing experience, and then when my friend made a Pauper Cube, wow, I must've made decks with that Cube in some form about a hundred times.

But then my friend grew disinterested in his Cube, partly because we never could get many people into drafting it, and partly because I was better at playing his own Cube than he was. And then I came to realize that even though Cube is a really cool idea, regular Cubes have been so widely adopted that you always basically know what's in them, and only need to ask a few questions to make sure (Is this Cube powered? Are there Signets and Bouncelands?). Cubing has sort of been "solved", and only the release of a new set spices up the format again.

Of course, this is only my opinion, and I'm sure there are many people who enjoy going through all the little nuances of different Cubes, but to me, it's monotonous. The actual idea of building a Cube still somehow appealed to me, though, but I knew I wanted to do something original. I considered Tribal at first, but that's been done enough.

Then came the day someone told me they built a Mono-Brown Cube. I've drafted it only once, but the idea intrigued me. There were so many strategies, despite the cube being 95% colorless! And then one day, it hit me: why not do a Cube of all one color? And of course, I chose Blue as that color, since it IS the most fun, after all. It also has a viable aggro strategy in it (Merfolk), Control, Aggro-Control, various Combo decks (Tinker/Show and High Tide/Storm), plus Mill, though that may be replaced with Affinity at some point.

What you see now is the work-in-progress version of it. I aim to get all six main strategies (Merfolk, Faeries, Mill, Control, Tinker/Show and High Tide/Storm) on relatively even footing, with a few little combos/fringe strategies also potentially being decks (Servant/Grindstone, Tolarian Academy, Time Vault/Voltaic Key, Upheaval, Power Artifact/Monoliths, Wizards), but it's gonna be a difficult task. Wish me luck.

Love this cube! Any thoughts on updating for Treasure Cruise or Dig Through Time yet?
