Description

Primary Design Decisions

  • My goal has been to create a limited environment that feels like drafting an expert level Magic set (approximately like Modern Horizons, but not). Also not simply a "greatest hits album" of the most powerful Magic cards ever made for constructed. If anything this is a greatest hits album of cards and mechanics that were great in their limited environments.
  • There are not really any permanents that can't be removed by creature removal or combat damage. The focus of the game play in this format is mostly creature combat. Thw Mill strategy is not necessarily about attacking. And you could kill with an X damage burn spell. So there are multiple paths to victory, it's not 100% creatures attacking...just mostly.
  • Cards must be good in as many strategies as possible without just being too generic whenever possible. It makes deck building more interesting if cards are doing more than one thing. Think Thought Collapse instead of Counterspell or Wall of Roots instead of Rampant Growth.
  • I want everyone to be able to build high quality decks, using a variety of strategies, across all color combinations. Good mana fixing is important for many of the strategies to work. Also deliberate inclusion of phyrexian mana and hybrid mana in each color and guild to make even more things possible.

Archetypes To Play

There are many strategies that are viable options to build around in the cube, with many of them also pairing especially well together. Here's most of the strategies to draft, in no particular order:

  • tokens go wide
  • +1/+1 counters matters
  • fast aggro beatdown
  • midrange value
  • ramp monsters
  • control
  • reanimator
  • etb blink
  • enchantment voltron
  • mill
  • colors matter
  • heroic
  • spells matter

Significant Combos:

Notice any cool combos I included that I didn't? Let me know in the comments!!

Color Distribution

Everything is very evenly distributed color wise, I included the same number of each combination. On top of that there are hybrid mana cards and phyrexian mana cards everywhere. There are many options open for each color to draft with.

  • 230x Mono Color cards: Each of the 5 colors gets their own block of (46x)
  • 235x Gold/Hybrid cards: Including 6 of each shard (30x), 5 of each wedge (25x), 18 of each guild (180x)
  • **35x 5 Color cards
  • **40x Colorless cards

  • 540 Total Cards

  • Also 200x basics: Each basic type has 40x sleeved for the cube, all full art BZF basics.

  • **And lastly all necessary tokens are sleeved and included in the box as well.

Ideas?

I would love to hear any and all questions, comments, and suggestions!!!
