White differently
Ever wondered how it must feel like to...
... Counter that
Liliana of the Veil
with a
Mana Tithe
?
... Banishing Stroke + Shining Shoal
on a
Vexing Devil
's take four, turn 1?
... Play against a weenie on a
Restore Balance
countdown, with
Porphyry Nodes
on the table?
And what's still more mystifying...
... Seeing a
Soul Tithe
on a table... being played?
The Deck
I'll keep it short. Pragmatically speaking, it's a super laid back deck where all you do is making sure your opponent stays uncomfortable. When I begun developing it, the idea was, white differently. Dogmatically speaking, the idea is to innovate. There's some beauty to winning through minimalism.
You're
Harm's Way
ing,
Shining Shoal
ing for removal and damage on the first few turns,
Porphyry Nodes
ing and
Soul Tithe
ing from turn two on, in order to make sure he never gets too far, then
Mana Tithe
ing the big thing! and finally resolving a
Restore Balance
or casting an
Austere Command
on turn 4 with a
Lotus Bloom
.
Midgame looks like
Restore Balance
,
Porphyry Nodes
,
Soul Tithe
,
Starfield of Nyx
and
Luminarch Ascension
are throwing a party and the guy you're playing against is a pizza.
The Cards
Its strongest asset is the wealth of very cheap removal, that apparently builds on no strategy known to the mono white color meta. Let's dive into it.
Card sinergies
May I emphasize on how disconcerting it is for an opponent to play against a deck built with these things?
And how would be having 6 victory enabling cards any good?
Well because you've got 26 removal cards that are going to nullify the initial advantage of card synergy in your opponent's side of the table. And then reverse it.
Why these cards?
As long as you drop the nodes after he's landed his second creature, you're giving him a migraine.
The tithe is great. It's that simple. Problem is, just like it happens with the nodes, people keep trying to see direct removal there, and that's not how the card works.
Playing the deck
And then at some point it happens. It's turn 9, He's tried to build his game, he's got roughly 30% of his game on the table, and he's got his draw to play each turn.
Then you land an
Ensnaring Bridge
, or
Starfield of Nyx
, and that's when it really begins. That's when you play
Luminarch Ascension
, or fetch it back from the graveyard, with a bridge on the table.
When somehow you both manage to make it to midgame, which is rare because you either overwhelm him with an
Entreat the Angels
or
Luminarch Ascension
, or you fail to withstand his initial blows... It's extra fun turns out!
I find myself fetching
Porphyry Nodes
and
Soul Tithe
s with
Starfield of Nyx
turn after turn with three or four angel tokens on the table, due to an
Ensnaring Bridge
that forces you to keep drawing. The situation for the other guy is hellish. Imagine playing on a
Soul Tithe
mortgage, with
Porphyry Nodes
on the table, on a
Restore Balance
countdown, and
Ensnaring Bridge
s, and angels, all at the same time.
Yes, that's
Soul Tithe
.
Pairings
I'll post results as I playtest
Jund:
Tron:
Affinity:
Merfolk:
UW control:
Infect: fun pairing. From the get go I've got 10 poison points to repel, half a normal life and that's kind of busy.
Luminarch Ascension
gets counters every turn though.
Ensnaring Bridge
is the card here. All in all, not the easiest pairing, still the rates are solid.
- There's this list called "The Army of Phyrexia" on T/O I've been getting two-out-of- three victory rates lately.
Living End:
Scapeshift:
Abzan Company:
Lantern Control:

(tl;dr)
Have fun, counter a card! Reverse some damage, make people eat their own!
Kill someone's favorite creature! Every turn! Entreat some angels at a point unknown!
