Wow that deck is really cool.I currently have an orzhov aristocrats deck, but I want to try your deck which seems to be more aggressive.

What do you think of Xathrid Necromancer? You have some human tribal support already in there and he could generate multiple bodies for saccing.

Did you also consider Athreos, God of Passage?

Are there any useful cards in eldritch moon, maybe selfless spirit?

@Azetsu Thanks a lot! I appreciate it. Yeah, you seem to have the gist of it. My deck is bit more aggressive than most Orzhov or Abzan builds can be. It puts on a lot of pressure fast and keeps it up. The others are more suited for a grindy game. Mine can play the grindy game just fine, but is more geared for the offensive.

I love both Necromancer and Athreos, and have tried both. I like them more in my Orzhov build as well, since both are slower, grindier cards. Liliana sort of took over the spot of Athreos in this deck since it can be a lot more explosive. And if I was more focused on the tribal aspect I would totally be playing Necromancer. It can be very powerful.

I have thought about Selfless Spirit as a sideboard card. It would totally be worth it if you had a lot of boardwipes or Anger of the Gods in your meta. It seems powerful. This deck is fairly resilient as it is so I haven't found myself needing it yet, but I plan to keep it in mind. And sadly I can't think of a lot more great cards from Eldrich Moon. Perhaps Blessed Alliance in the sideboard if you are afraid of Boggles/Infect/Burn. Voldaren Pariah  Flip seems fun, but also a bit slow.

Love the concept, though I have to admit your Original Post could really use spoiler blocks to help ease up scrolling to get all this awesome info.

Also I am considering making an sac deck around Butcher of the Horde; other than Blood Artist/Zulaport Cutthroat and Viscera Seer what else do you use for the "core"? I might be just missing it but I cannot really see how you keep tribute fodder up, is it the playset of Lingering Souls or something else?

Over all really good deck just needs some cleaning up(accordion/spoiler blocks are really helpful). +1 for your effort and overall great deck.

With your manabase and creature stats, I'm pretty surprised you didn't go for 2-3 Return to the Ranks or Rally the Ancestors. It would be one of your strongest topdecks and is quite the gamechanger when you are seriously behind. You'd probably have to adjust your Manabase a tiny bit, but with only a single double-black creature you are still pretty flexible I think. I suspect you have already tried those cards out, but just in case.

It certainly looks like you have a lot of experience with the archetype, I'd be glad if you could maybe give some advice on this project of mine Modern Dimir Aristocrats, although it's pretty different from your aggressive approach and not very finetuned yet, compared to your list.

@casmiel Both Return and Rally are great cards and very fun, but I just felt they were a bit to slow for this deck. I absolutely love them in the abzan version. But in this Mardu build, I always feel like by the time my Return or Rally becomes good (when I have a few targets in the yard) I am already closing out the game. This build is really aggressive and puts on a lot of pressure fast, so it has always felt like when my graveyard is finally filling up the game is already over. I think part of the reason is because I am mostly saccing tokens unless I am combing out for the win. Abzan is a tad bit slower, and often gets in fewer attacks. But that gives it more time to fill up the yard. Feel free to try it out though, maybe you will have better luck than I did.

And hell yeah, I have been thinking about a Dimir build for a while now. I think it would be fun to try.

Hey I extremely enjoy your deck! I've had this built for a while now and it has been my personal favorite. The list I have together I have attached. If you have any time, I would really appreciate any advice you have for the deck. I like the Liliana, Heretical Healer  Flip. However, I tried the mogg-war marshall route and never found it to fit just right. Anyways, thanks for taking the time!

After taking a hiatus from the Abzan Combo versions (which are much softer to Grafdigger's Cage), I've returned to tinkering with Mardu Aristocrats. Here are the most important things I've found:

1) If you haven't already done so, mess around with 1-2 copies of Smuggler's Copter. Viscera Seers, Cutthroats, Bob, and others all make good pilots since they aren't usually attacking or blocking much themselves. 3 flying damage is pretty aggressive. The card looting can help queue up your missing sac outlet / artist / fodder, get you that topdeck Falkenrath you really need, pitch that late game thoughtseize you didn't need, or even toss Lingering Souls or Bloodsoaked Champion into the graveyard as extra "virtual" card advantage. Very compatible with a multicolor deck, to boot. Personally I think you could trim one seer or cartel to get started.

2) It sounds like you've messed around with Abzan variations. If so you probably already know that Voice of Resurgence is bonkers. Like Doomed Traveler it's somewhat resistant to graveyard hate such as Grafdigger's Cage, Tormod's Crypt, and Relic of Progenitus since it just leaves a token rather than needing to come back from the grave. It's passive ability can discourage your opponent from playing at instant speed, which is great for a deck that's otherwise focused on bodies over interaction. Its token can single-handedly turn a collection of 0/1s and 1/1s into a huge threat. If that's not enough then get the original card back with Kommand / Liliana and make a second token. I honestly believe that the raw power level of this card eclipses everything else in this deck except Lingering Souls, and is strong enough that you should at least experiment with running a four color deck. It is a much better card than Bloodsoaked Champion, or Mogg War Marshal. If it's too painful you might substitute 2x Helix in over 2x Path, or run 1x MB Timely Reinforcements. Might have to trim down Ghost Quarter, too.

Hope that helps. Good luck.

I could +1 this just for the description alone... "Westvale Abbey can randomly flip in this deck giving you a straight up mothafucka"... Dying. Very neat deck, one of the few decks that I didn't build and yet may consider buying just because it looks like a hoot. Lovely job.

Can you give a idea of this deck in a 200 dollar budget besides mana base

January 7, 2017 10:37 p.m.

lagotripha says... #12

If you have the mana base then something like this is very playable; Modern aristocrats copyJust remember to playtest before jumping in.

January 8, 2017 4:49 a.m.

LordSnow says... #13

@Bmw225 Definitely. If you aren't worried about the mana base, this deck is not to hard to play on a budget. Only a few real money cards. You could replace Dark Confidant with something like Asylum Visitor. Or any other creature card that can generate some card advantage. Kalitas, Traitor of Ghet could be replaced with something else that inhibits their grave yard. Thoughtseize could be replaced by something like more Tidehollow Sculler or Duress. You could think about replacing one or two Path to Exile with that new Fatal Push card. Lemme know if you need more suggestions!

@Wel5 I am happy it was helpful! This deck is a real labor of love for me so I appreciate the kind words. If you need anymore help with it, just ask. Its a complicated deck but damn is it fun.

@lagotripha Ooh I always forget Delirium Skeins is a card. Thats an interesting one with Asylum Visitor.

This deck looks very fun, overall looks nicely tuned. I have to wonder if 3 ghost quarters is correct tho, doesn't that make the mana very bad? Have you considered playing Smuggler's Copter? I made a first draft of a deck including copter here: http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/mardu-aristocrats-copter/

I love your deck idea, i need to say it! I need really to consider to buy Dark Confidant, it makes just too much fun. Just some questions: when you bring in Grave Pact which card goes out? and same with Wear / Tear etc.

February 2, 2017 3:40 p.m.

LordSnow says... #20

@artemesis The 3 ghost quarters is definitely a bold move, but I was running across a lot of Inkmoth Nexus' at the time and it worked really well. By no means would I call the mana "very bad." But you could definitely cut a Ghost Quarter if you aren't comfortable with it, but I really have not had problems with getting the right colors of land.

@Wel5 Thanks! I really appreciate it. This deck is insanely fun. Bob gives some crazy card advantage in this deck. He is usually public enemy #1. And as for cutting to fit it Grave Pact it really depends on what you are playing against. I first try to remove irrelevant removal spells. If there are none, I usually remove Liliana, Heretical Healer  Flip as she can be a bit slower, especially for a lot of the creature decks that you may be using Grave Pact against. Bloodsoaked Champion is something I remove a lot, because he is not a lot of help against creature decks, since he cant block. Or sometimes Falkenrath Aristocrat if I want to get rid of a different 4 drop. Mogg War Marshal is one I often take out is it is not always the most efficient.

Similar thought process for Wear / Tear. Irrelevant removal first, then look to cards less efficient for the specific match up like Champion, Lili, or one of the Aristocrats.

@Titilanious Thanks a lot, I appreciate it! I am in the same boat. Got into it at the same time. Act 1,2, and 3. I wanted something that felt similar but worked in Modern. Glad I finally got to a spot that is playable and this much fun!

Hey any thoughts about the new Bone Picker for this deck ?! :-)

April 17, 2017 3:14 p.m.

LordSnow says... #24

@Wel5: I have been thinking a lot about that card. I am not sure it is right for this particular version of the deck. I feel like it needs to have the deck built around it a bit more, in order to get it out and active early on. I am putting together some brews with it now. Here is my first, and I can keep posting them if I put more together: http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/aristocrats-of-junk-and-bones/

So far, Uktabi Drake seems like the best enabler, I can think of for it. Death Cultist seems like it could be okay. I just feel like it needed something besides just Viscera Seer and our own removal spells. Hangarback Walker also comes to mind, but its hard to want to throw a card away. But damn would a turn one Bone Picker be awesome. And drawing it late wouldn't feel to bad. I will be interested in testing them or other options that come about.

@LordSnow Intersting new Deck idea with Bone Picker actually. Nice green creatures too, very cool. Yea probably you are right with your conclusion for this deck, it should be more built around it.
