Gear up and say your Prayers!

Odric, Lunarch Marshal is mustering for battle to cast out any infidel who oppose his righteous cause! Behind him stand strong, noble knights and loyal soldiers. He has been blessed with the divine, an Angelic flight supports his march for justice. He is the Master Tactician and therefore brings out the best of every soldier in his army by sharing all keyword abilities on the field.

This is a creature voltron deck with a knight 'n' soldier tribal splashed into it. The Angels serve supporting roles and can act as stand alone heavy hitters. I find the synergy of knights and soldiers really effective and flavorful at the same time. The deck doesn't depend on the typical soldier token strategy. Instead the focus lies on valuable, stand alone soldiers/knights with good keywords or strong effects like Mirran Crusader and Thalia, Heretic Cathar . When your ranks are growing, you'll have to make the right decisions on what to equip during the game to ensure that your key creatures stick around. For every opponent there is a different color combination that has to be dealt with and this is what the deck does best. Try to search for creatures with protection of their own to make a basis for strong equipments and then share the value all around with Odric, Lunarch Marshal and Concerted Effort . Odric as the commander doesn't serve as an aggressor, he's usually the glue that sticks all the value on board together. Still, the deck can go the commander voltron route if needed or it just happens to be the best way to go. Because of this, I find the deck very flexible and no game is the same.

To ensure value draws, I've chosen to go the mana-filter route with; Endless Horizons , Sword of the Animist , Weathered Wayfarer and Land Tax as the main filter sources.

The deck can stand its ground in multiplayer matches because of the protection theme but really shines while playing 1vs1 EDH matches.

Recruiter of the Guard is the most important tutor in the deck. Most of the time she serves as a stepping stone to get your Stoneforge Mystic out so you can start tutoring for one of your swords. She still is of great value if you happen to already have your champion geared up and ready to smash. For a lot of situations she can find you an answer:

The deck depends heavily on equipping your creatures with resilient gear. You'll have to make sure you chose the right targets for the gear. There are some pretty sweet combo's within this deck.

First of all let's talk artifact tutors. The deck has four "one for one" tutors and one tutor "on a stick"; Stonehewer Giant . They are mostly used to fetch one of the four swords or; Darksteel Plate , Swiftfoot Boots / Lightning Greaves for "The Champions of War". Ideally is to get some of the protective gear on them with one of the four Swords. This makes you one of the strongest people during each combat phase until end of turn.

Umezawa's Jitte is a good utility equipment. It allows you to enforce some strong board control or just simply smack face with an unblockable creature due to protection.

Sword of Fire and Ice , Sword of Feast and Famine , Sword of Light and Shadow and Sword of War and Peace are awfully strong with, Mirran Crusader , Knight of Glory , Fiendslayer Paladin , Oketra the True and every Angel. The swords give you flexibility and can by themselves turn the game in your favor.

Argentum Armor is in the deck for hard removal and to deal some commander damage combined with the Jitte and/or the Swords. It draws a lot of hate though so it's mainly used when someone is about to go of or when I can finish someone of with commander damage.

The pillars of an army are formed by the strongest men and women of them all. These champions are different from the common soldier, they have their own speciality. Each one of them can carry you to victory if you protect and equip them with your finest gear. Some have protection from certain colours while others have indestructibility and hexproof. Chose wisely which champion will be entering the fields of battle first since he or she will be the target for your equipments.

They are the ones that the troops can rally to on the battlefield. Equip them with the finest gear to make them untouchable;

There is also a small exalted sub-theme build into the deck since most of the time you have generated a strong creature with support from other creatures like, Stoneforge Mystic and Recruiter of the Guard . The deck is build to make sure that your game plan is not outpaced or interrupted to much so a big deal of your creatures are supportive that don't want to attack. Oketra's Monument for example is perfect for this deck because it generates loads of tokens, but you don't want to attack with them at all. The tokens are only valuable because they have vigilance, Odric can share that keyword around and they become a draw engine with Skullclamp . So, because of these reasons you'll often find yourself swinging with one strong creature while your game-plan is safe through other creatures.

Therefore exalted is a strong addition for this deck. If you happen to get Sublime Archangel on board with already a load of tokens or creatures in play you can unexpectedly knock someone out with commander damage or deal a ton of damage.

As a mere human you're not going to make it on the battlefield without divine favor! The angels are there to support the troops on the ground and to create an even bigger threat on board by themselves. They all provide the flying keyword through Odric and each have different roles within the deck:

Utility:

Offensive:

Heratics shall burn

Concerted Effort is one of the most important cards in the deck since it shares protection around. Combined with an online Etched Champion and Avacyn, Angel of Hope there is almost no direct way Odric's soldiers can be touched. No one can strike them down, for the path is clear and their faith is unbending.

I've taken out Coat of Arms, Sublime Archangel and Captain of the Watch for Tragic Arrogance, Etched Champion and Pentarch Paladin.

The Coat is a "quantity is quality" card and that is not what this deck is doing. The deck is not "tribal" enough to utilize the buff of the Coat.

I'm really sad to take out one of my favorite Angels (the art is just beautiful) but the Archangel is also a quantity over quality card so I couldn't find enough ways to abuse her ability.

Captain of the Watch has been taken out for the same reasons as mentioned before. The buff doesn't have enough impact on board. Pentarch Paladin is an hard-removal tool on a stick and he has great synergy with Eight-and-a-Half-Tails.

Etched Champion on the other hand is an pure quality card that protects itself at ease with metalcraft. Tragic Arrogance is a much welcome board stabilizer because the deck doesn't have any form of mass-removal and a board-wipe is just to costly for me to run.
