I like Putrefy and run it in my current standard deck but the problem with it here is that it's CMC is higher. Abrupt Decay is just too good with all the Heroic Aura nonsense out there and control currently dominating. Besides I have 7 additional removal spells on my SB available game 2 and 2x Desecration Demon on top of that.
I really like that I can attack with a 2/2 Pack Rat and cast a Bile Blight after they choose to block with their Loxodon Smiter to take it out. Bile Blight is more versatile than it reads.

suggestion for your sideboard. Mistcutter Hydra for mono blue and controll and Unravel the Aether for the annoying gods and god's tools like Whip of Erebos .

lol I was trying to keep it mono-black. ...but yea, kinda feel ScOoze will end up MB. If I go that route I'll add ur suggestions to the SB, they're both good.

I don't like the Encroaching Wastes s here. Your only win-con is Pack Rat so you should utilize it to it's fullest and run a playset of Mutavault . I don't think the 2 Deathrite Shaman profit enough from 2 wastes, also you can use the drums to make them tap for mana. I like how you try to imitate Modern JunD/K / Rock but I don't think it's going to work. You don't have Goyf as heavy beater and I doubt Pack Rat can replace it.
In other words, what does this deck do, that makes it stronger than current mono-black? You utilize Decay to destroy pesky 3CMC permanents and that's about it. Your main game-plan is still: TOTY TTPR (turn one thoughtseize you, turn two pack rat). But what is your secondary win-condition? You hurt yourself with Thoughtseize , Pain Seer and Underworld Connections (that's a lot of drain!).Maybe you draw 3 cards per turn, but you can only cast so many and they are not all equally useful. Pack Rat is expensive especially in the early turns. Given you can utilize Drum with Seer and DRS with ditched lands to the Rat but it's still slow and you hurt yourself a lot. Also, what do you do if someone runs Gaze to wipe your Rats?
I don't see any secondary win-con as in Mono-Black (Specter into Gary into Gary, or Demon into Demon). It's basically: I win with Rat or lose. I think this deck can go somewhere, but right now it lacks an additional win-con. Mayb add Scavenging Ooze (as you already mentioned yourself) and 1 or 2 Polukranos, World Eater . Also I think you should cut some lands. 24 lands when you curve out at 3 and have basically 4 dorks with Drum and 4 dorks with DRS + ditched lands is a lot of mana you can't really utilize if games go long. I think 21 lands should be do-able for this deck.
I hope you keep on tweaking this deck, but right now to me it feels like a weak Mono-Black deck, that has to go all in Pack Rat because it can't win else. +1 for the idea of making Modern JunD/K / Rock possible in Standard. I will follow closely :)

lol it's true. I don't want to play standard I want to play modern and my standard decks take a huge modern approach.
I actually have a more G/B version currently set to private. I'll share it so u can check it out. check ur page.
The wastes do benefit DRS but they're in here to hate on rival vaults, temples & shocks. Makes a mana screwed opponent even more screwed :) Keep them off double green for Advent of the Wurm or double black for Hero's Downfall

lol I own a playset of Reaper of the Wilds but I will probably never use that card until rotation. Y would I pay 4 mana+ for Deathtouch & Hexproof when I have a cheaper 2 mana+ Trample & Regeneration creature. If I did run him it would be in place of Polukranos, World Eater as a 2 of.
Which do u feel is stronger Polukranos, World Eater or Reaper of the Wilds ?
February 8, 2014 12:39 p.m.
Reaper of the Wilds 's scry is very powerful and can set you up if you need something. I think that Polukranos, World Eater isn't as reliable as Reaper of the Wilds because repear can gain hexproof, which keeps him away from removal, and he can trade with any bigger than him if needed. Also I would take out the Duress and add in 2 Whip of Erebos . The whip is extremely powerful by allowing all of your creatures to have lifelink.

I don't really think u grasp the concept of the deck. This deck is a direct port of the Modern G/B Rock deck.
The Duress r in place of Inquisition of Kozilek . On top of that, I used to run only 4 Thoughtseize in my standard deck and it was never enough. I almost always side in the 2x Duress from my SB. So when I built this the Duress was an auto include. Especially considering with Pain Seer playing the roll of Dark Confidant adding all these high CMC cards you're suggesting doesn't seem like the best idea.
For reference, the deck is a port of this deck. Which until the recent banning of Deathrite Shaman was a Tier 1 deck.

I like this deck a lot +1, my only suggestion would be that Pain Seer seems out of place, since his only way to be relevant would be to attack otherwise he would be just a bear, especially against white weenie with brimaz, while you do have Bile Blight by the time that comes down either pain seer is dead or he comes down that turn and if your lucky you can swing two turns later. VS a slower deck yours will out pace them but there is not many, bear in mind this is about pain seer otherwise your deck is very solid and will hold it's own, I personally think pain seer will do better in a dimir build, in here he just seems like a lot of work to keep him on the battlefield working.

Yea in play tests so far Pain Seer has been underwhelming to say the least.

I think you need a mainboarded playset of Desecration Demon s because of their immense speed. If you do decide to add Lotleth Troll , Soul of Innistrad could help get ur guys back to hand.

zygon91 xGhostx MrDaBucket what do u guys think of this build?
July 16, 2014 4:59 p.m.
Move 2x Bile Blight to the side, drop the single Golgari Charm and Underworld Connections add 4x Lotleth Troll
I would also seriously consider running 3-4 Desecration Demon or Master of the Feast mainboard for an early wincon.
I dont think you need to be running 4x Pain Seer I am sure that 2x would suffice. Maybe as well drop to the 3x Deathrite Shaman
It looks like the main wincon is going to be coming from a Polu, or potential Dese/Master. Otherwise, it lookjs like the deck will slowly sap your enimies by pelting with weenies and Deathrite, which is not a bad an option, but tends to back fire, especially when running against Agrro Weenie, Selesnia/Naya Hexproof.

I almost made this type of build. I'm still a little shy of going that far to green. To be honest, you'll have to tell me how it goes. Looks exciting.
Becuase you asked, my opinions, but strictly just my opinions are:
-I'm not sure if Evolving Wilds is good/fast enough for today's Standard. Historically, it hasn't worked well outside of limited. Playtest it against others, though.
-I would want 3 Underworld Connections in this.
-I'd push Golgari Charm to the sideboard. Maybe have Ultimate Price or Devour flesh mainboard.
-I'm not of fan of running more than one Urborg in a deck not based around Swamp as a mechanic. But that's just me.
-I'd keep the Ooze's, drop the Deathrites. If you have empty creature spots, replace the with Desecration Demons. Desecration Demon is way too good not to play if you can.
-Test out Reaper of the Wilds if you can. She's my top candidate for replacing Desecration Demon this fall, post-rotation.
Anyway, looks like a great start. Really hoping Rock keeps on past rotation as an archetype. I like blowing up everything and playing big dudes.

I like the one-of planeswalkers. May I suggest removing Underworld Connections as you only have one and replacing it with Liliana Vess ?

I'll consider adding her but I don't think she does enough and definitely in another slot.

What about removing Underworld Connections and adding a Chord of Calling or two to help you get what you need at a given time and since your creatures are primarily green it'd help with the convoke three greens if your having land troubles?

How come people think Underworld Connections needs to be replaced? It's there because it works quite well with Courser of Kruphix .
I'm not really sure what I would look for with Chord of Calling , though in this shell I think Diabolic Tutor would be a better choice.

abrupt decay hits 3 mana cost and bile blight hits 3 defense which is normally not more then 3 mana cost creatures. maybe take out one of each and put in 2 Putrefy to make sure that they die! Just in case they have a bigget creature and you don't happen to have a hero's downfall. I like the interaction with the drum and pain seer! Cool deck +1 from me :)
