Congratulations, you are being rescued. Please do not resist

Well that is a good question....one that i ask myself often but that's beside the point! My name is Hrafnkell, I started playing around the time that Return to Ravnica released and i almost immediately started playing commander. I started playing commander for real when i bought the esper commander precon. I didn't like the infinite combo i-just-drew-a-card-and-i-just-won kind of style. I have been searching for my style a bit and i found out that i like putting alot of creatures on the battlefield, with a lot of mana, and turning them all sideways.

That's where this commander comes in! I have been tinkering with the idea of an Omnath deck and decided that now was the time! Green has been my favourite colour to work with in commander decks but this is the first mono-coloured deck that i build and i am very excited to see how it fairs in the coming months where i will be playtesting a version of the above deck but lets dive into this deck a little bit!

I'm not gonna do the usual list of things why you should or why you should not play this commander but rather give you my view on why this commander is interesting.

  1. Is green
  2. I like tapping all my lands (preferably more than once) and casting something big
  3. Omnath gets bigger every time before i cast something big, so why not swing with a huge-ass blob of angry green mana?
Then go somewhere else tihi
Okay...there are alot of creatures in this deck. Why? Because i like them. I'm going to put all my creatures in a couple of categories, so here goes.

In this section i am going to break down the list a bit. I had originally planned on doing just the creatures but i saw after a while that there are, naturally, a lot of cards that fit in many categories, so i am going to put every card type in the listing below, with emphasis on creatures.

a. add to my mana pool directly

b. untap lands

c. what i call conditional mana, if it be = devotion or = greatest power among creatures i control

d. Here we have the rampers both by means of fetching or exploration-type effects for example Oracle of Mul Daya

e. Mana doublers, my personal favourite category, tapping your basic forests for 12 is pretty sweet ;)

As you can see in the categories above that i try and have a bit of diversity in what kind of mana and how i get it. If something happens to my doublers i want to have mana at the ready from my mana dorks or if there is a board wipe and i lose my creatures, that i have the doublers to get something out, like a Genesis Wave or sth.

We can't have a commander deck and have no protection, and Lightning Greaves and Swiftfoot Boots are must-have cards in any commander deck, in my opinion. I threw in Whispersilk Cloak because i like the card very much and my opponents always forget that it has both shroud and unblockable and not just either shroud or unblockable, super-secret-dimir-tech if you ask me ;)

I put in Yavimaya Hollow just in case i lose my artifacts and want something backup so that Omnath, Locus of Mana is never completely vulnerable.

Even though we are not playing this deck has no problem drawing itself. I have been worried often than twice that i was going to draw myself to death, which is never a good thing if you didn't kill everyone else at the table before you reach that point. I put literal card draw cards but also cards that allow us to put more cards into our hand, sort of like the conditional mana dorks. These cards are for example Sylvan Library or Tireless Tracker, cards that put cards into our hand, but at a cost. I also put Genesis Wave here even though it dosen't explicitly draw us cards, but it does put permanents unto the battlefield when cast at the right time and for a lot of mana, which is always fun.

You can also combo out with Omnath, Locus of Mana and Greater Good. You sac Omnath, Locus of Mana to Greater Good, basically draw X+1 where X is the mana in your mana pool. Then you discard three cards, no big deal BUT now you have tons and tons of cards (hopefully) and tons and tons of mana (hopefully) to spend on all the cards that you just drew.

Okay. This is my favourite category. These are the cards that i feel make enough of an impact that should, when used at the right time, swing the game in your favour. Pretty much pleased with every card in this category, especially Myojin of Life's Web when used correctly with the Greater Good combo or Rhonas the Indomitable or rancor or Brawn to give our creatures trample with a boosted board thanks to Craterhoof Behemoth. Love every card in this category ;)
The rest of the cards on the list, the value category and the category just called other are just cards that i thought fit the theme or are a bit basic like Ohran Viper and Forgotten Ancient.
