The Story
The guy that taught me how to play magic hates using Swamps. He mainly uses Forests, and builds all green decks. I worked a very long time on my two colored G/B Golgari deck. I started using Infect, because I only play with cards I own, And it seems to be the best thing to keep up with people who build the uber expensive decks that they only use online. People want to complain that ten poison kills when my General to Black Death, Skithiryx, the Blight Dragon is only a 4/4 flier. That is really powerful for an Infect creature, especially a flier. But with creatures out there like Slivers, and Eldrazi, and the fact that here, online, anyone can pull cards from thin air, I think 10 poison counters to kill is fair. But if anyone thinks otherwise I'll do 15 against weaker decks.
The Description: Land
Lets start with the mana base. 29 Basic swamps with 8 non-basic lands, each of which serves a purpose. Cabal Coffers It ads a swamp to your Manna pool for each swamp you control, so even the two tapped swamps make two more usable mana in my pool. Next is Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth Which makes each land on the field a swamp in addition to its other typs. Inkmoth Nexus has tap to add one colorless mana to my mana pool. I like the other part of it better. Pay one and it becomes a 1/1 colorless artifact Blinkmoth with flying and infect. It is perfect to get hits in if it is in my opening hand. Blinkmoth Nexus is tap to add one colorless mana, but I mainly use it to soup up my Inkmoth Nexus. Reliquary Tower gives no maximum hand size when played. Myriad Landscape helps with mana ramp with a pay two option to sacrifice it and pull two basic lands onto the field tapped. Crypt of Agadeem can add extra mana for each black creature in my graveyard. Shizo, Death's Storehouse allows me to pay a swamp and give a legendary creature fear until end of turn. (Mostly used for my General.)
Crypt Ghast has been added to double mana for better mana ramp.
Defense,
Black has no real non creature spell defense that I know of. The only black counter spell I've been able to find can be countered if the opponent pays 5 life. I'm not going to run that in an infect deck. The card is called Dash Hopes.
Some of my creatures have regenerate. For creatures that end up in my grave that I want back I've got Corpse Cur for a creature with poison. Disentomb is in here for a one time "Gravedig" a creature card. It only costs one swamp. I might swap this for Midnight Recovery which has Cipher making it reusable.
Other defensive creatures,
Reaper of Sheoldred is a five drop 2/5 with infect. Its secondary ability gives the controller of any source of damage to this creature a poison counter. It is basically good for blocking anything with power 4 or less without flying.
Phyrexian Obliterator was added. This creature forces any opponent that causes it damage to sacrifice a number of permanents equal to the damage taken. This reminds me of the Eldrazi annihilator effect. I wonder who thought this up first. Speaking of Eldrazi I have added the one I have to this deck specifically for the side effects of its attack. Spawnsire of Ulamog is now in my deck to pull a sideboard of Eldrazi onto my battlefield. My sideboard now consists of 10 Eldrazi Cards. I can not use the latest one I got however because Emreakul, the Eons Torn is an illegal card. If I were to actually play in a tournament I would have Witchbane Orb in my sideboard to swap out for a card if I were playing against decks with red, and or blue.
Taking care of unwanted enemy creatures,
Spread the Sickness, Hero's Downfall, Silence the Believers, Black Sun's Zenith to deal -1-1 counters to hexproof, or indestructible creatures, And Bile Blight are in my destroy creature arsenal. Silence the Believers exiles creatures to get rid of one, or multiple indestructible creatures. Bile Blight is my token eliminator.
Board wipes include In Garruk's Wake. Archfiend of Depravity was added to attempt to control opponent's creature count on field.
Tutors,
Tutors are Increasing Ambition which has flashback with a 2 card search bonus. Diabolic Tutor which is just a 4 drop card search. I've added Demonic Tutor, which is only a 2 drop, as well. Diabolic Revelation was re-added. It is awesome for pulling the necessary cards to set up my Eldrazi invasion Sideboard all at once. I have already successfully accomplished this once.
In the most recent update to this deck I have added more artifacts.
Grafted Exoskeleton is an artifact equipment that gives a creature +2+2, and infect, or Phyresis which is an infect granting enchantment.
The number of non infect cards in this deck was reduced for more creatures with infect, and artifacts such as Akroma's Memorial, Sword of the Animest, Sensei's Divining Top, Nightmare Lash, and Jet Medallion. Crucible of Worlds allows me to constantly play Myriad Landscape to increase black mana on the field. Thron of Geth, and Spine of Ish Sah in combination create a loop of destroying permanents, and proliferation.
Caged Sun doubles my black mana, and works well with Cabal Coffers to increase mana ramp. Caged sun also gives all creatures of the chosen color +1+1, and the color is always Black. I've got Whip of Erebos to give all my creatures lifelink. It also has a secondary ability to pull a creature back from my grave, grant it haste to attack, then exiles the creature. I have never used this in any other deck, but I see a need for that ability sometimes in this deck. Creature flashback real quick to a Zombie knightnamed Phyrexian Crusader which has protection from red, and from white. What about the other colors? That is why I run Sword of Body and Mind specifically for the Crusader to give him protection from green, and Blue. The sword also gives +2+2, mills 10 of an opponent's cards, and I get a 2/2 green wolf token when a player takes damage from equipped creature. The green token does not have a mana color identity so it may be played in this deck. This comes in handy when playing against green creatures with intimidate, which means they may only be blocked by green creatures.
Fireshrieker gives double strike making a 5/5 infect a one hit kill. I say if it is not indestructible make it indestructible with Darksteel Plate which is an artifact which is also indestructible. I need protection from spells so I run Whispersilk Cloak for Shroud and unblockable, and I run Lightning Greaves with a 0 equip cost for Shroud and haste.
Planeswalkers,
Liliana Vess +1 to make a player discard a card. But with a -8 ability to put all creatures from all graveyards on the battlefield she is always targeted. This is why I use her Tutor ability to grab a good card from my library as soon as I cast her. If I am lucky enough for her to live a round I can Tutor with her again for -2.
Liliana of the Dark Realms was added to increase mana ramp. Her second ability makes her perfect for this black infect deck.
Finally I have Karn Liberated who i never fully understood how to use properly until it just recently dawned on me. If I have Karn on field, and things are not looking good for me I can exile a few of my best creatures, then restart the game with them. With the right cards it should be a one turn game as soon as the game is reset.
(This is where I stopped editing this deck on 4/25/16 and will pick up on it later. Everything below may need edited.)
Mind Shatter was added as defense to attempt to wipe out someone's hand before they can use whatever they're planning against me. Despise was added to make someone reveal their hand so I can rob them of a creature, or Planeswalker before they can use it. Duress was added to basically get rid of a counter spell.
Eldrazi Sideboard is in the testing phases. My real life sideboard consists of Ulamog, the Infinite Gyre, and Pathrazer of Ulamog. It That Betrays, and Kozilek, Butcher of Truth Have been added to my real life deck along with Eldrazi Conscription and Eldrazi Monument
(Latest update.) Through experience I found I do not need the Rings of Brighthearth and Basalt Monolith infinite colorless mana combo to pull off my Eldrazi sideboard invasion. I was able to accomplish it with the mana ramp from only Crypt Ghast and using Liliana of the dark realm's -6. I'm replacing the artifacts mana combo with two management damping creatures, Magus of the Coffers, and Nirkana Revenant. I've overlooked Nirkana many times until I realized exactly what she does. She not only doubles swamps for mana ramp, but you can +1+1 her for a swamp, and stack it. This makes her incredibly useful as a weapon.
I had a card that destroyed both a creature, and a land, but it was to expense. I added Sinkhole the collectors addition just to take out any one land.
