“Appear weak when you are strong, and strong when you are weak.” ― Sun Tzu, The Art of War

Haktos, the Unscarred is a virtually unblockable, 6/1 commander that can only be removed from the field in one of two ways: a board wipe, or at his telegraphed weak point. I have noticed that the psychological reaction opponents have him is reliable and consistent information is something we can take advantage of; we know exactly how our opponents are going to try and take him down, as well as the fact that they are probably going to try and take him down. We are going to capitalize on those movements and make them become wasted effort by purposefully having Haktos NOT be the main point of the deck, but still putting him forward as a must-answer threat.

Soften up your opponents, coax out their interactions, and redirect their focus to Haktos so that the real plan can take place.

The actual plan of this deck is the power of spite damage effects like Brash Taunter, Boros Reckoner, Mogg Fanatic, etc, and redirecting high damage-based board wipes to my opponents (taking advantage of Haktos' invulnerability to damage based wipes- he will persist after these wipes). These high damage board wipes (Star of Extinction, Rolling Earthquake, Blasphemous Act, etc) pair very nicely with spite-damage based creatures, and can be used to close out the game suddenly, while your opponents' focus is on removing the 6/1 un-blockable commander swinging them down.

A third element to this deck is the specific "running low" mana base. Using bounce lands, the catch up ramp off of Claim Jumper, and Surveyor's Scope are easily activated. These bounce lands are also used to recur the MDFC mana that the deck is running, so that they can be used late even after being initially deployed as a land. Using Strip Mine like effects can also decrease the land count of the deck, turning on the catch-up ramp.

Certain cards are too high on the budget for the deck, cards like Blaze of Glory, Akroma's Will, Tibalt's Trickery, Deflecting Swat and Cavern of Souls. New cards that fits the style would be screaming nemesis.

Plan A: Nuke the board with a spite damage creature in play for sudden damage.

Plan B: Use an unblocked Haktos to close the game.

Plan C: Redirect opponent's attack/burn spell back to them.

Keep an eye on screaming enigma and untimely malfunction
