While Copter is nice tech, 24 lands is too much. cut a GQ for another mother of runes, one of the best cards in the deck. In the sb, I would go down 1 Gideon and 1 faerie to include 2 Enlightened Tutor - it finds nearly everything else in the sb. I am also an advocate for Manriki-Gusari over any other equipment in the sb. Finally, cut down 1 big thalia in the main to include 1 Spirit of the Labyrinth, which is great when you have recruiter.

Hey Boza! Thanks for the feedback!

I'm currently just testing out the 24th land because the deck has become more mana-greedy recently. I might go back down to 23 after testing, but I'm just giving it a shot. I would normally agree with bumping Mother of Runes up to a 4-of, but my meta is full of Eldrazi, so it's often not as good as it can be.

I have tried Enlightened Tutor boards before, but I've found that I prefer having more options to having the tutor.

Manriki-Gusari is pretty sweet. I'll try to find room for it, but I think that I would cut something like a Path or Council's Judgement before my SoWaP. Manriki is a great card, but it isn't interchangeable with other equipment.

Spirit of the Labyrinth... is a card I keep going back and forth on. It is a powerful card for sure, but 1 toughness is rough. I'm trying to keep the number of creatures resistant to Dread of Night and Golgari Charm as high as possible. I also don't think that Thalia 2.0 is very good as a one-of. You really want to jam her on T3, not tutor for her, so I would play 2-3 or none at all. Still, Spirit is powerful enough that I might try cutting something for it, even if it's not Thalia.

Thanks again for your input. Even if I didn't take all of your suggestions, forcing me to justify my choices is in of itself, a helpful exercise.

With the popularity of Miracles why no Spirit of the Labyrinth? Is Sanctum Prelate putting work in for you because I'm finding it a bit slow. How's your Eldrazi matchup?

Hey Serriten!

Spirit of the Labyrinth has been in my maybe pile for awhile now, but every time I test it it just doesn't feel good enough. It has 1 toughness and I've done my best to minimize the impact that hate, like Dread of Night, has on me. It's fine against Miracles, but against decks running more creatures, it tends to just sit there and not be able to attack. Getting stone-walled by Young Pyromancer tokens and other random dorks feels bad. It also shuts down our own card advantage from Sword of Fire and Ice and Palace Jailer, which is one way we can get the upper-hand on Miracles. Spirit is certainly a strong card, one that I don't fault others for playing, but I don't care for it.

Sanctum Prelate is great! I've even given thought to bumping the count up to 3, but that's probably a little too much. The only time that I've found Prelate to be slow is against Storm, but if it does come down before you're dead, it buys you a ton of additional time. A Prelate or two, or a Prelate protected by Mother of Runes is game over for a lot of opponents.

Honestly, I have only had to play against Eldrazi twice since adding Prelate and Recruiter (which is odd since it is fairly popular in my meta). The match-up doesn't feel great, but I did win both matches. Fliers are important to breaking through their ground creatures and applying pressure. Recruiter of the Guard being able to chain Flickerwisps to apply pressure was good. Sanctum Prelate is also decent. 7 for All Is Dust is very strong, but 2 for Umezawa's Jitte and Warping Wail is also good. I don't think the match-up is favorable, their faster hands are still back-breaking, but I havn't tested enough to know for sure.

hey, going to start to play legacy soon (just playing proxy matches atm). my question is why the 2 ghost quarters instead of the 2 cavern of souls or 1 cavern/ 1 horizon canopy. also would you have any other sources where i could look up possible info on d&t. ive checked most of the stuff on thrabenuniversity, listened to both d&t and aethervial podcasts on legacy's allure , and watched a few matches of marc konig.

It sounds like you're off to a good start. Welcome to Legacy!

I'm just playing the Ghost Quarters for testing really. I did use to have cavern in that slot. GQ is really good against a lot of decks. Many Eldrazi, Delver, and Shardless decks play no basics, so it can sometimes be a Strip Mine.

It also gives the deck a few more answers to utility lands. Getting rid of Grove of the Burnwillows against Punishing Fire decks is important. It also gives us another way to interact with the Dark Depths combo.

I think that Cavern of Souls used to be better than it is now. With the new goodies from Conspiracy 2, our Miracles matchup has become favorable, lowering the need for something like cavern.

It is certainly still a viable option, especially in human heavy lists.

any match ups you find fairly difficult? ive played primarily against shardless, Tes/Ant, elves, reanimator (r.b & u/b), lands, and miracles. yet to face anything like eldrazi or delver. any knowledge from prior experience

I would say that the hardest match ups are Elves and Jund.

Elves just does a lot of things that our game plan is weak to. A fast Jitte against a slow draw is our only real chance most of the time. Thalia, Heretic Cathar does help in the match up, but there isn't really anything you can do to make it favorable.

Jund has Punishing Fire and can play the long, grindy game better than us most of the time. Out of the side they also get a lot of hate cards that we have a hard time dealing with. I do think that the match up is much better now that we have Sanctum Prelate.

As for Eldrazi and Delver matchups:

Against Eldrazi, you can sometimes sneak wins by attacking their mana early. This isn't always, or even often, the best strategy though. Generally, you want to save your Wastelands for Eye of Ugin. Batterskull, Thalia, Heretic Cathar, and fliers are your best cards. You can usually race pretty as long as they don't have a blistering fast start.

Delver is generally a pretty favorable match up. They try to be very efficient and low to the ground, so Thalia, Guardian of Thraben and Wasteland can just stop them from playing Magic. Flickerwisp can reset a flipped Delver of Secrets  Flip and can block Delver if you need to play the control role. All of our equipment is pretty good against delver. I would usually go for Batterskull or Umezawa's Jitte first.

There is a lot more to these match ups, but if you want more information, Thraben University goes more in depth than I probably can.
