If you don't like the Runed Servitor idea in some of those linked decks and really want one of those two-drops, Dimensional Infiltrator beats Intruder and Mimic by a country mile in this. Ingest does nothing for you, and Mimic will rarely get a buff, so a 2/1 flyer that sometimes saves itself and has flash is way better.

Thanks, xcn!
Yeah, I'm not a fan of Runed Servitor's group-hug thing at all. I've become convinced Eldrazi Mimic is pretty much useless too! But I keep going back and forth on the Flash of Dimensional Infiltrator vs the higher toughness of Mist Intruder, especially against faster decks ...

Would you recommend a mix, or a three-of?

Thanks again!

Thanks for reaching out clayperce! I dig where you're going with this deck, U/R flyers is a pain to deal with, but fun to play with. For card suggestions, I don't see there being a REAL purpose of only running 1 Pilgrim's Eye and 1 Mist Intruder. That being said, running 2 Stormchaser Mage could be replacement flyer. With it having prowess and 3 toughness, it can help defend a bit better(and potentially do more damage) than the other 2 cards. Another card I would consider replacing is Roast. Yes, it's a great card for low mana cost, but I feel like you want to eliminate the air threats more than ground. This could mean adding more Fiery Impulse or Negate to prevent opponent from gaining any ground. These suggestions are mainly based around reducing how spread out the board is and focusing on key cards. I really do like where this is going though!

Since you're wanting to flood the board with thopters, Trumpet Blast could be a KILLER pump spell. Now, I don't know how to fit it in there, but just a thought I had.

I don't quite understand why exactly you want to run something like Dimensional Infiltrator or Mist Intruder. I'd just run some more Thopter Engineer. When you survive to turn 3 you're likly going to snowball and having a full board all the time.

And why run the Goblin Dark-Dwellers ? besides bringing back the Exquisite Firecraft is everything else he could bring back useless at that time I think. I mean all of the counterspells are useless in that situation.

I like the way you are running your Artifact's! Even changed it like this in my own Thopter deck.

I do also like the Roast in the mainboard, will try it out in mine as well

U/R Thopters -> own Thopter deck

hoodlum13,
Yeah I'm not actually sure what I was thinking of with the one-ofs. I think I was maybe play testing in a live deck? Whatever, they're gone now!

I had actually looked at Stormchaser Mage early on, and dropped it with the idea it would be better to have something colorless for a Ghostfire Blade. Looking at it again though, I really like it. Thanks much!

I think I'm sticking with Roast for now ... Rhinos and medium-sized Eldrazi just show up more often locally, and it sideboards cleanly with Tears of Valakut if needed.

I really like your idea though of adding some more Negate. It's just so nice against Planeswalkers. Hmmm ...

And yeah, something like Trumpet Blast could be good. I think I'm good on pumps for now, but I'll keep it in mind for after the Ghostfire Blades rotate. OK, maybe not the Blast itself, since it's rotating too, but something like it!

Thanks again!

Tunichtgut,
I know it's a mid-range deck, but I was really just looking for 2-3 more 2-drop creatures to keep the pressure on early. I'm trying 2x Stormchaser Mage in that slot now, but if I can get by without them, another Thopter Engineer would be really nice.

I'd like something along the lines of Goblin Dark-Dwellers as my alternate win-con: A powerful 4- or 5-drop that can quickly turn the tables when I'm behind. An Artifact or Devoid Creature would synergize better, and I really wish it had Haste. But Menace plus a quick Exquisite Firecraft or Roast looked pretty good. I'm totally open to other ideas though; do you have something in mind?

Thanks tons!

P.S. Thanks also for the new-and-improved deck link. I was confused when I first looked at it! :-) I'll take a deep look later today!

I think you'd be better off removing Evolving Wilds and just putting an extra Mountain and Island in.

You've got so many other double sources of mana that you don't need them.

In case you don't know, you can tap the two Thopters that Whirler Rogue brings out immediately, to make something Unblockable, even though they have summoning sickness.

You can also tap your Artifacts to activate Whirler Rogue, eg. tap Ghostfire Blade, even when equipped.

I'd move Disdainful Stroke to the Sideboard. You only want to add it if you see a lot of big Creatures on the field, otherwise it is wasted.

You could put two Clash of Wills in its place and put Disdainful Stroke in your Sideboard instead of Aligned Hedron Network.

Argeaux,
Yeah, even with the of Stormchaser Mage, I'm finding I can do without the Evolving Wilds.

I totally didn't know that about the Thopters with Whirler Rogue (I've tapped Saprolings to Convoke with Sprout Swarm so I should have thought about it) nor have I ever thought about tapping Equipment. TOO COOL!!!

Oooh, I really like Clash of Wills; I have no idea why I hadn't even looked at it earlier!

Thanks tons, I really appreciate your thoughts!

If you are gonna use an X counter spell... Why not just use Mindswipe

February 4, 2016 6:38 p.m.

clayperce says... #14

bretters,
Mindswipe is a great card, but player burn is really a secondary win-con for this deck. Plus this close to rotation, I'm trying to avoid DTK and FRF cards if at all possible.

Thanks much though!

bretters,
I'd actually looked at Void Shatter early on, and it was in the deck until right before I took it public. But I swapped it out at the last minute for Scatter to the Winds, which I think is just barely better around here.

Coming full-circle on my two-to-three-drop counterspells makes me feel that the deck is getting closer to "just right" ... well, in that area anyways! :-)

Thanks so much for your thoughts and inputs. Keep 'em coming!

No... Void shatter over clash of wills...

February 4, 2016 8 p.m.

clayperce says... #18

bretters,
That's what I figured you meant.
I've replaced Void Shatter with Scatter to the Winds with Clash of Wills (as part of a Claustrophobia-Disdainful Stroke shuffle). You suggesting Void Shatter again means I've come full circle :-)

More mom and pop naalar. The card is to good to just run 1 of.

Tightening Coils might be a better curve than Claustrophobia

Ramroller not used much but has great potential with Ghostfire Blade

clayperce says... #21

Ferrari_420,
Ma and Pa are awesome, and they're why I actually built this in the first place. But it turned out that for this deck, Whirler Rogue is better ... if I was more Spike and less Vothos, I'd be running the Rogue as a four-of and dropping Ma and Pa :-(

frogkill45,
Yeah, Tightening Coils is great and my curve graph looks a little weird. But with Hangarback Walker as a two-drop and Clash of Wills as something like 2.5, Claustrophobia actually fill it out pretty nicely. Plus the creature can't be used as a really annoying chump-blocker :-)

I looked pretty seriously at Ramroller early on, but it's in kind of an awkward place. Too big to be useful early and too small to be an effective as a back-up win-con.

Thanks TONS though; I really appreciate the opportunity to take a hard re-look at these!

Kaity_32,
Maybe. In playtesting, I'm OK on draw, but just barely. On a real table, we'll see.

With that in mind, I have a couple Artificer's Epiphany on-hand ... not for sideboarding, but as a post-match change out, just in case! :-)

I like either Atarka Pummeler or Endbringer as a replacement for Goblin Dark-Dwellers.

Endbringer gives very clear late game advantage. You can pay for it using your Shivan Reef.

Atarka Pummeler might give late game advantage, but would have to be tested.

I also just added four copies of Mob Rule to my Sideboard and it is off the hook.

You can turn Weenie decks or huge Eldrazi decks back on themselves.
