The deck shown here has been retired. It was the first copy deck I created, and as such lacked a defining identity of what it was supposed to do. I have developed several new copy decks with each having a distinct identity as to what it does and how it should play. Some work better than others, but creating each has been a learning process as to how to build a better copy deck.
I will leave this deck up primarily for future reference for myself, especially a reference of how to put too many ideas into a single themed deck.
A Quick Course in Counterfeiting--Crypto-Mimic--Liquimetal Copy--Venser, the Bouncer--Liquimetal Transreliquat--Reinstating Legendary-Rule DestructionThe primary purpose for uploading this deck is I'm attempting to improve it, and having it visible here makes that easier. I would really appreciate suggestions towards making it work better and/or faster. It isn't specifically intended to win, just for having fun (I wouldn't mind if it could win, though).
A Quick Course in Counterfeiting
There are many useful cards and combinations that can be used here, but covering all of them would be a bit tedious. Since the individual cards are self-explanatory, I'll simply cover the important combinations here.
Crypto-Mimic
Although the synergy between these two may seem obvious to some, it can easily be overlooked. By using
Progenitor Mimic to copy a Crytoplasm, you have given yourself not only the ability to put out tokens, but to change what creature you are putting out token copies of. Additionally, each of these tokens comes with the added benefit that they can change what they are.
Liquimetal Copy
Perhaps my favorite combination of cards in this deck. By using
Liquimetal Coating to turn any permanent into an artifact, you can then play
Copy Artifact
for a cheap method of copying literally any permanent on the battlefield - excluding anything with hexproof of course.
My favorite use for this? Copying enemy Planeswalkers. Your opponent has
Chandra Ablaze? After using this, you now have your very own...
...Chandra Ablaze, Artifact Planeswalker Enchantment.Venser, the Bouncer
Although technically a single card, Venser works wonderfully here. He allows you to bounce your static copies -
Evil Twin,
Copy Artifact
,
Phyrexian Metamorph,
Copy Enchantment
, etc - and make them copy new permanents. This is especially useful later in games, when there may be some objects on the field that would be of better use to you.
Liquimetal Transreliquat
Similar to the
Liquimetal Copy combination, but a bit more reusable. By using
Liquimetal Coating and
Mizzium Transreliquat
together, you essentially create a
Cryptoplasm for anything non-Planeswalker.
Reinstating Legendary Rule Destruction
Before M14 and the changes to the Legendary and Planeswalker Uniqueness rules, this deck was useful for destroying both Legendary permanents and Planeswalkers. Since the changes though, it has had to get a bit creative. By playing
Eye of Singularity
, this deck can go from being simply replicating to completely destroying. It does put
Progenitor Mimic out of commission, but
Lazav, Dimir Mastermind doesn't mind the destruction.
And that brings an end to this quick-guide to counterfeiting. There are certainly more combos that can be used, but the ones I've listed here are the simplest ones that generally see play. If you have any comments or critique, please do comment; I am always looking to improve this deck.
