Sideboard

As you probably know there once was a very powerful control deck called Cruel Control. Well I believe that with the modern format coming close to a meta shift with the new fetch lands that Cruel Control could be one of the most competitive control builds in the format.

With black we gain great discard and kills spells that are not offered in the traditional modern control deck (UWR)Here are some examples of the most powerful cards we are playing in our colors.

Thoughtseize this main board discard will give us a huge edge against combo decks like splinter twin and scapeshift, and is great against decks like POD for taking their engine.

Damnation wraths are probably more powerful in modern now than they have been for a while. So not letting our opponent regenerate their Thrun, the Last Troll post board is huge, it also gives us main board answers to creatures that are very hard to deal with, for example Tarmogoyf and Geist of Saint Traft

Liliana of the Veil gives us a threat and a piece of disruption. If she isn't dealt with we win the game and if she is, that just means our opponent had to deviate from their plan to answer a control players threat.

Creeping Tar Pit Is not as good as Celestial Colonnade. It just isn't. That being said, an evasive 3 point swing will win you games when you grind your opponent with discard and removal.

I am very excited for this list with the fetches being printed it will help our mana a lot with access to Polluted Delta and Bloodstained Mire, I have decided to mainboard 1x Anger of the Gods and 2x Damnation because I believe with the new lands and powerful creatures in this set that aggro/midrange decks will get better
