Sideboard v3 —Dec. 12, 2014

After playtesting this deck extensively on untap.in I have found that aggro decks are the biggest problem for this deck. so I have again remade it.

4 Soul Tithe 4 Oppressive Rays 4 Silence 3 Glaring Spotlight

bob111634 Good suggestions.

Sublime Archangel is going into the deck as soon as I can get 3 more of her. I currently have one.

Grand Abolisher is a great suggestion and now that he has been reprinted in commander 2014 I am going to pick a few of him up and add them into the deck.

Champion of the Parish is a good one. I was really cautious when building this deck about not having enough damage dealers as I call them after all the control was put in there and used cards like Silverblade Paladin and Fabled Hero to give me some quick easy damage especially since they could both be used to give Eidolon of Countless Battles double strike. After playing the deck however it has more than enough damage and its biggest downfall is the lack of mana curve since:

A. I can only lay down one thing per-turn until I get 6 mana

B. it can get undercut by aggro decks depending on my draws.

Champion of the Parish is going in for sure.

I might consider the classic Honor of the Pure . Maybe you could run an Odric, Master Tactician ? Grand Abolisher is more of a sideboard card against control, I wouldn't mainboard four. Maybe replace him with Accorder Paladin or Student of Warfare ? Knight of the White Orchid could work here, too.

Board wipes really nuke you, and so do big creatures like Terra Stomper . Path to Exile is nice for the latter, and Frontline Medic makes your team just a little bit more...indestructible. Which, speaking of, reminds me of Angelic Overseer . In a deck like this, it's basically impossible to remove, as well as huge. Maybe as a sideboard card? It could replace Sublime Archangel against control decks and the like.

Good luck!

wallacethepig I think that you are selling Grand Abolisher short. Yes he is control hate however he is also useful in other matchups in giving you clues about your opponents hand and forces them to use their instants during their turn. so if they did not use their Doom Blade on my Fiend Hunter who has their Terra Stomper locked down then I can safely assume that unless their next few draws contain a Doom Blade my Sublime Archangel is not going to be put down.

skills422 I agree that he has multiple uses. But do you really want to topdeck one when you have one out on the field? He's fairly useless in multiples, at least compared to other cards like Accorder Paladin . I don't think you need to take all of them out, but you don't need four unless you're up against a control deck. (I've also noticed he's useful as bait; your opponent will waste a doom blade on it and your angel will get in later. But that doesn't change what I said.) Maybe have a 2/2 split with Knight of the White Orchid ?

If you're looking for a similar effect, you could try an instant like Silence or Rebuff the Wicked . You need mana up to use them, obviously, but a turn 2 or turn 3 Silence can screw with your opponent's tempo like nothing else. Rebuff the Wicked is just unexpected, and keeps your stuff safe.

I've also noticed you're running 65 cards. There's nothing wrong with this, of course, but just keep in mind your odds of getting any card in particular will be lower. Not only that, but you have a high curve and a comparatively low land count. And a third of your lands enter the battlefield tapped. In a fast-ish deck, that's a problem. I don't have any suggestions for you here, but it's something to keep in mind.

I also want you to be aware that Brave the Elements is something of a nonbo with Auras. If you name white as your color, your Bonds of Faith will fall right off. I realize this won't happen often, it's just something to be aware of.

Oh, and tokens. You need something to stop tokens. They disappear forever with O-Ring stuff, but most decks won't care and will make a ton of 'em anyway. Lingering Souls is a nightmare for this deck.

I didn't really have any more recommendations for you; just help for the meta. Sorry about that. It just means you've got a pretty sweet deck, I guess. :D

haha this is great. I made a soldier deck which was pretty similar with the whole banishing thing. Someone told me I had too much exile stuff but it works. Journey to Nowhere is pretty neat too.

The idea is to stall their creatures with Fiend Hunter and Banisher Priest while taking out their other permanents with Banishing Light and Oblivion Ring as well as a select few baddies. for instance a Primordial Hydra is O Ring worthy lol

I like this deck! Looks fun +1. Also the converted mana cost graft looks like a hand pointing at some pie saying "I'll take the green piece please."
