Maybeboard

Rhys is all about creating a massive Token army, and being able to wipe out the whole table in one attack. To make sure this happens, the deck is filled with plenty of ways to make, double, and protect your Token Army. This is one of my most consistent decks for being able to execute it's plan, if very fun to play, and rarely has issues with mana flood, lack of mana, and lack of ways to make creatures and remove problem threats.

Game Plan: Early ramp, and posting up a few dude for defense. The ideal time to start vomiting out tokens is mid game, when you have some protections in place, and a way to double your tokens. Ideally, a main Win-Con in hand as well (Beastmaster Ascension, Jazal Goldmane, Craterhoof Behemoth, Mirri, Odric, etc). General game plan is to get enough tokens that an alpha strike can win the game. If you feel the need to bait out mass removal, make sure you do it before committing to the attack or increase in board state. This deck can be very hard to stop once it gets going. Teferi's Protection is a good option when dealing with Red (Hour of Devistation blanks much of the protection in the deck). Finally enjoy killing a whole table in one attack!

Change Log:

10/2/17:

IN: Growing Rites of Itlimoc//Itlimoc, Cradle of the Sun

OUT: Entreat the Angels

  • Entreat the Angels is a card I like, and has been in the list since FTV:Angels came out. However, I very often find myself wishing I drew something different unless I have a large amount of mana, or some doubling effects on the table due to it's intensive mana requirements. Now, of course, Itlimoc can help this, and I had thought of dropping to 36 lands and replacing something with this, but, for now, I think Entreat the Angels is the right cut. Should I decide to put Legion's Landing in here, I may cut out Kjeldoran Outpost for it.

10/7/17:

IN: Legion's Landing//Adanto, the First Fort

OUT: Kjeldoran Outpost

  • Kjeldoran Outpost is a great card, and I am taking a risk going down to an essential 36 lands (38 after flipping Legion's Landing and Growing Rites of Itlimoc), However, Kjeldoran Outpost is a loss of a land to pay 2 mana for a dork, and Legion's Landing makes a dork for a W, then flips into a land (netting me +1 land instead of -1 land), and makes a dork for 3. Seems like the best option for my deck right now.

3/1/18:

IN: Huatli, Radiant Champion, Tendershoot Dryad

OUT: Elspeth Tirel, Nomad's Assembly

  • In playing this deck, when it comes to Planeswalkers, I felt like having Elspeth Tirel was my weakest link. While she does come down and have the ability to make 3 soldiers, Sun's Champion just does it better for 1 more mana. Huatli's Emblem gets me a much needed draw engine that this deck sometimes lacks. Both have a low impact on an empty board as it is, and generally I won't cast without a few tokens on the board already.

  • Nomad's Assembly is a great card, but, I found that it's so powerful that I rarely untap with anything on the board. Generally my board will get wiped before I untap and recast with Rebound. I decided Tendershoot Dryad was a better investment on mana, and having a second creature that gives a token on even my opponent's upkeep is pretty strong, and hitting City's Blessing should be easy in this deck.
