This was the first modern deck I went ahead and tried making myself.
It started as a project to make standard cards at the time work in modern. I started with using
Westvale Abbey
and
Cryptolith Rite
as a combo to use tokens to sacrifice themselves while paying for the cost of the Abbey. I also saw
Nissa, Voice of Zendikar
and
Gideon, Ally of Zendikar
when they were in standard at the time, and knew I needed to play them.
After using the deck at FNM's and doing decently, I saw how bad of a card Crypolith Rite was for modern and moved on. The stars of the deck throughout every FNM were Nissa and Gideon.. Those two cards ended up shaping the deck into what it became.
I ended up cutting the Abbey out entirely in favor of
Castle Ardenvale
. It costs 1 less mana and no life to play a token.
Eventually, I did end up seeing that Channel Fireball had posted a similar deck to this one, and drew some inspiration from their list. I never played
Noble Hierarch
in my build, but decided that it would be worth the investment to get. I also never put
Path to Exile
in my build, but made the room because it pretty much an essential card to play in most white modern decks.
Ajani, Strength of the Pride
was added because I liked the idea of gaining life, and getting the Pridemate token he made.
Elspeth, Knight-Errant
is also a great planeswalker. +1 for a token, and then her ultimate makes all of the tokens indestructible.
I was using
Intangible Virtue
for a long time, but ended up cutting it from the build. It made for too many bad hands, and ruined consistency.
The new card I'm testing from MH2 is
Chatterfang, Squirrel General
. If it hits the board turn 2 or 3, followed by some planeswalkers, the board can get out of hand very quickly.
The deck says not modern legal for now, but that is until Chatterfang releases.
This is most definitely my favorite deck I've worked on, and I am always looking at new cards ti make it better.
