Ayli, Eternal Pilgrim & The Clerics of SUCC and Thicc

This is a budget EDH deck that focuses on Cleric tribal as a tool which enables us to pursue an overall lifegain strategy, which is rewarded by our commander, Ayli, Eternal Pilgrim. Once enabled, she functions as a constant, consistent removal engine which can wipe out our opponents' boards and help us secure win through several ways.

Overall, the endgoal of this deck is to use our Clerics to help us amass a large life total, facilitated by a variety of support methods, all of which fall under one of two categories: SUCC, or THICC.

THICC:

Lifelinkers like Stonehorn Chanter, Doubtless One, and Orah, Skyclave Hierophant give us sources of easy lifegain while also providing bodies on the board to potentially sacrifice with Ayli, Eternal Pilgrim.

fat-assed creatures like Ancestor's Prophet and Pontiff of Blight can help block opponents, or can synergize with other parts of our THICC suite.

We can use these large-rumped creatures to gain life by other means as well. The 'Soulsisters' themselves, Soul Warden and Soul's Attendant can net us life from simply playing our big-bootied friends, further aided by the honorary 'Soulbrotha', MC Pious Evangel  .

SUCC:

We also run a couple of independent sources of Extort (Blind Obedience, Crypt Ghastfoil) as well as other cards that drain our opponents, such as Abundant Maw or the afformentioned Pious Evangel  . This supplementary SUCC package helps get our life total up while also putting pressure on our opponents.

Notably, DJ Jazzy Pontiff of Blight (creator of the underrated sleeper summer hit single "I Am The Pontiff Of Succ") is able to give Extort to each one of our creatures, allowing everyone to get in on that SUCC action.

Along the way, we have other support cards, like Rhox Faithmender, who can double our lifegain effects, making the road to our goal a bit easier to reach.

Independent lifegain cards like Martyr of Sands helps us push forward toward our desired life total, or make up for lost life.

Cards with lifegain attached to them, like Solemn Offering get us some life while also doing something else to help us get ahead.

Raw life gainers with Cleric synergies (Ancestor's Prophet) also help us reach that 50 pt. life total we need while also promoting our Cleric strategies.

Alternatively, should we run into significant opposition, we have 'extenders' that help us grow our lifetotal through various other means, such as providing tokens to sacrifice (Rotlung Reanimator, Skirsdag High Priest, and Phyrexian Processor). Angelic Accord also serves this purpose, helping us maintain a constant influx of life as long as we can maintain a static boardstate.

Soul Foundry, a rather spicy card, makes tokens out of our valuable nontoken creatures, getting us a recurring source of a particularly desired effect while also creating sacrifice fodder of Starlit Sanctum or Ayli, Eternal Pilgrim. Soul Foundry also gives us a good, constant source of tempo, ensuring we never have a dead turn while it remains in play. Especially good targets for Soul Foundry include:

If we start to run out of momentum, or our opponents begin clearing our board, cards that can refuel us or rebuild our board are necessary.

Ancient Craving, Read the Bones, Bloodgift Demon, Underworld Connections, and Bygone Bishop help us get extra cards to refuel and start rebuilding our boardstate.

Greed can do the same, drawing us a ton of cards as long as we have the mana to pay for it. The life cost is minimal, as with this deck, we can get that life back in short time, especially after drawing so much gas.

We can also bring cards back from our graveyard with cards like Order of Whiteclay as long as we have a way to reliably tap it, such as with Paradise Mantle, Skirsdag High Priest, or Ancestor's Prophet.

Whisper, Blood Liturgist and Orah, Skyclave Hierophant can recur cards easily, especially when combined together. If Whisper, Blood Liturgist sacrifices two of our Clerics while Orah, Skyclave Hierophant is in play, not only do we get the creature card back from Whisper, but we recur two extra Clerics from Orah to boot.

Board-clearing effects can also help us reset parity, or clear things out so we can race for a win. Killing Wave can be nasty, especially if we have a large life total, forcing our opponent to either get burned or clear their own board. Other, more traditional sweepers, like Fell the Mighty and Nova Cleric simply clear the board, and March of Souls gives us tokens as compensation, which we can sacrifice later on.

And so, let's say we get a massive life total. What do we do with all this life? Well, we run a couple necessary cards just for this purpose.

Unspeakable Symbol and Souldrinker let us convert our life into stats, allowing us to reach for a kill. Both effects can be activated at instant speed, allowing us to use them like combat tricks on unblocked creatures.

Alternatively, they can be used to simply beef up our boards against opposing threats, allowing us to tank damage-based board clears, or block big attackers.

Lastly, we run an alternative win-condition. It is a one-hit combo that uses Shaman en-Kor's activated ability an infinite number of times at instant-speed to trigger Daru Spiritualist's ability. Then, using Transmutation, we swap its power and toughness and either swing for massive damage, or sacrifice it to Starlit Sanctum to instantly body a single opponent. Additionally, we can sacrifice it w/ Ayli, Eternal Pilgrim to gain massive life totals, and use that to reach for a win with cards like Unspeakable Symbol.
