is awesome. So are extra turns. Opt in combination with Temporal Mastery is a dream come true - especially if you're able to pull it off on the opponents turn.

3 rounds of swiss Modern tournament with same hundreds of players.

Round 1 against Mono Blue Merfolk with Benthic Biomancer.

Game 1: I kept a shady hand and was punished for it.

SB

  • Out: 3 Spreading Seas, 1 JTMS

  • In: 4 Titi

Game 2: Never drew a 2nd land and lost.

Notes: Gigadrows can kill Phantasmal Image by simply targeting it. I won a third game where we played for fun but Merfolk is probably one of our worst matchups. They have main board Counterspells and deploy a fast clock.

Round 2 against UW Midrange/Flash

Game 1: My opponent missed his 2nd land drop and I could deploy an early Dictate without getting punished because of his slow clock.

SB

  • Out: 1 Cryptic Command, 3 Spreading Seas

  • In: 2 Gigadrowse, 2 Dispel

Game 2: My opponent was on the play and employed a Clique early and later a Restoration Angel. A timely Dispel of his sealed the deal and I lost.

Game 3: I had an awesome starting hand with Dispel and Gigadrowse. I was able to go off by tapping all his blue mana at the end of his turn.

Notes: Gigadrows can kill Phantasmal Image by simply targeting it. I won a third game where we played for fun but Merfolk is probably one of our hardest matchups. They have main board Counterspells and a relatively fast clock.

Round 3 against Boros Burn

Game 1: My opponent had no clue what was going on and I was able to time walk him with a miracle Temporal Mastery followed by Exhaustion, JTMS bouncing Eidolon of the Great Revels and Snapcaster target Exhaustion. In the end I was a bit lucky that a second (not flashbacked) Exhaustion was enough to time walk when I didn't find a Time Warp. 1-0 for me.

SB

  • Out: 3 Spreading Seas, 1 Howling Mine

  • In: 4 Dragon's claw

Game 2: Burn did its thing. I should have mulliganed for Dragon's claw.

SB

  • Out: 1 Cryptic

  • In: 1 Titi

Game 3: I deployed an early Dragon's claw to slow him down. I played a Titi but didn't block with it. I was able to go off after tapping his lands during his upkeep and flipping Titi (holding it back for another turn). I deployed a Dictate at the end of his turn and killed him quickly with Titi.

All in all, I was happy with Mono Blue Turns and I love the deck. Radiant Fountains were great and Titi proved again to be a great card out of the sideboard. In the future I'll replace the Spreading Seas with Remands. Not sure if they are better, but the Spreading Seas felt a bit out of place this time.
