Pioneer is here and so is my old friend Kalonian Hydra . I have always loved that card and I'm super excited to see whether I can make it work in Pioneer as I felt like the card always fell short in modern apart from some fringe decks (like the budget Rhythm build from Saffron Olive).

The main plan of this deck is to just get a Rhythm of the Wild down as early as turn 2 with the help of our 8 1-mana accelerators. Then follow up the Rhythm with one of the many "enters with x-+1/+1 counters" creatures. At this point we want to get a Kalonian Hydra down asap to get full value of the attack trigger. An unanswered Hydra (with haste from rhythm) just ends the game over the course of two turns (doubles first to 8/8 and then to 16/16 for total 24 trample damage). The other creatures are more of a backup plan and additional threats.

I am considering Hangarback Walker over Stonecoil Serpent and maybe make room for some Once Upon a Time but for now I really like the "protection from multicolour" and that it has reach and trample.
