+1 for dodgeball reference. Props on good deck idea with explanation. still think thoughtseize should eventually be in here if you can afford it.

I actually ran a similar deck before rotation it honestly wasn't bad. It had it's issues but it stayed competitive for the most part the only problem was that big green devotion decks were just too fast. I'd honestly suggest running without the sirens I'm favor of more removal or counters.

@dan8080 The only problem with removing the sirens is that you lose a lot of the discard shell, and you're left with a plain U/B control build. That kinda defeats the purpose of the deck, and makes Waste Not next to useless.

@SkyCake I've been dying to play a discard build in standard and never really found enough cards just in black to play it. I like this quite a bit, it seems fun to play.

Jotefin Thanks! I haven't had a chance to extensively test it yet but I'll be posting updates when I do. You're right about the sirens though, dan8080 I can't justify taking them out unless I'm putting in more discard to compensate such as Mind Rot. The reason I like Siren of the Silent Song is two fold: First her discard ability obviously fits with the theme of the deck but more importantly she's also a body on the board to swing for damage and block for liliana if I need. Secondly the synergy with Master of the Feast is awesome. If my opponents hand is empty (as is tend to happen with discard decks) I can stack their triggers so they draw and discard on my upkeep.

Keep the suggestions rolling though!

I actually ran mind rot in my deck and it honestly wasn't that bad. But once you get the Liliana, master of the feast, waste not engine going it's a goofy thing.

I really like this idea. One thought would be to add some Springleaf Drum instead of Retraction Helix to enable your Siren of the Silent Song (even if they're sleepy). You lose the bouncy-removal, but it serves as pseudo mana ramp which might help keep up with the aggro decks. Just a thought. +1 from me.

I love to see a deck starring Waste Not, as I too feel it is extremely underrated! While a tad bit slow, I feel like that doesn't detract from what you've made here since the meta is flooded with tap lands for the plethora of three+ colored, post rotation decks. My only change would be -4 Polluted Delta +4 Temple of Deceit for scry OR +4 Dismal Backwater for lifegain if you're looking to keep blue mana source.

You've got my +1

I think Despise would be better than Mind Rot here. Also Murderous Cut works well with Polluted Delta.

thenightmaremuffin Thanks man! I'm actually not trying to keep the blue at this point though. Even as a splash blue doesn't have a lot to offer to the theme of this deck and thus the reason I dropped it. As you mentioned, the deck is a little slow so adding tap lands only slows it down further and I can't afford it.

BlatantLizard Why would despise be better? In my original playtesting it ended up being a dead card more often than not. Even if I could pull a creature/planeswalker from it sometimes a noncreature spell was the bigger threat. With mind rot I can provide more food for waste not in one turn and usually it puts my opponent in a hard position over what to keep. As to Cut, again it's a good card but with only 4 fetches I don't have a big enough graveyard by the time I need it when bile blight can consistently hit most small threats in the meta like Mantis Rider and Goblin Rabblemaster. Thanks for the look though!

A really nice idea. I like how much of a budget deck it could become if you removed the Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth and the Liliana. I might consider making this. +1

A devotion deck and no gary? Gray Merchant of Asphodel. Hes a good 5 drop for a killing blow.

I love this deck. Reminds me of a mono black discard deck that I had featuring Lilliana Vess and Lilliana's Caress back during the Shards block. +1

Tormented Thoughts is gangster. Especially with Master of the Feast, but even just sacrificing a zombie makes it another Mind Rot, or if you have the mana you get a little extra out of your Whip-backs.

shepherdofire I do like him but I'm not sure what I would cut. Lili is the most likely candidate as I want to keep the curve low. Thoughts?

kanswercity Problem with tormented though is it's a terrible turn 3 play. At best I'm getting rid of a zombie as you said, but then I lose a body. Worst case scenario it's a dead card with no creatures worth sacking too. Mind Rot just always works, no muss, no fuss.

I would suggest putting that 3rd Whip of Erebos in your side board and adding one gary. It might peak up the 5 cost part of your curve but the whip is like any god artifact: Bad to have more one in hand and on field, especially two in hand. I used to run a mono green deck with 3 Bow of Nylea. The damn things would sift and land on each other. So swap a whip into your side board. Take out Perilous Vault. Now I suggest you try this Irl and keep the deck on here, the same. You dont want to find out the hard way of having a great deck, taking a strangers advice, changing your deck on here and you lost your reference for a good thing. But hey its your deck. Do with it what you want.

Despise maybe?

Despise is not good against the aggro non creature Jeskai decks, like at my fnm..... it sucks seeing no creatures in hand. But it does give you the chance to look at their hand for one black.... hmn,

I would think about dropping Polluted Delta unless you plan on throwing in some Murderous Cuts. Ultimately, same advice as the guys above me. Running a mono-black with no delve, is not worth the life, when you could lose the whips. All for a fraction of a better draw chance. And indeed, Gray Merchant of Asphodel is perfect with Liliana Vess on the board as a win-con. +1 from me though, I am addicted to mono decks.

Rakshasa's Secret is probably better than Mind Rot if you're playing Whip of Erebos. You might also want to consider Agent of Erebos over Tormod's Crypt.

shepherdofire It's funny you mentioned that, I just played a game online today where I had one on the field and 2 in hand. Putting one to Sideboard, I don't think it'll be too hard to remember I took out the vault :P

Thanks again.

AnAcquaintance Don't know if I'd agree here. This deck doesn't have any delve and the only creature worth hitting for whip is Gray Merchant of Asphodel (which is only a one-of). Agent of Erebos could be good, though I like that crypt is cheap as air and it gives me more control over when I take their graveyard.

And Agent of Erebos can be procd off by the 4 Waste Nots. And maybe Add another Gary.
