I'm so happy that +1 counters are back! I really miss my Hardened Scales deck, and am going to try to make something using Winding Constrictor that can be as competitive... let's see what we can do!
Quick Rundown of what's in here:
Aetherborn Marauder
- There should be plenty of counters available for him to eat, and he gets extra if you have the snake. Then he has flying and lifelink, and should be doing lots of work.
Drana, Liberator of Malakir - Expect a lot of hate against Drana. Because of first strike, she'll hit and then add counters to all of your other creatures before they deal damage. This gets disgusting with a constrictor... and if it's not stopped is completely broken :)
Endless One
- Good at any stage of a game. I tend to hold them until turn 3 if I have a constrictor, otherwise I play them as needed. You can also drop them for 0 to get revolt for fatal push, which I'm probably going to be putting in here, as I pulled 2.
Fretwork Colony
- An ok card that becomes AMAZING with a constrictor or two. It is completely worth a damage to add 2-3 counters to this guy. If I didn't have a constrictor out, he may not be as worth it... depends on what I'm up against.
Lifecrafter's Gift - This is way better than
Scale Blessing
was. Being able to choose where I place that first counter is just awesome.
Nissa, Voice of Zendikar - Broken... just broken. Adding counters to everything is great, but then dropping little creatures to then later pump is just perfect for this deck.
Prey Upon - Green kill spell... what else can I say :)
Rishkar's Expertise - This is one I wasn't sure about... but then in playtests I completely saw the value. I can easily see things with 4+ power, so to draw 4 cards and then cast almost anything in this deck for free is perfect. I really wish I still had the Managorger for the expertise spells!
Rishkar, Peema Renegade - Drop a couple counters and then make all my creatures mana dorks? Yes Please!
Subtle Strike
- This was already an awesome card, but adding in the constrictors makes it even better.
Verdurous Gearhulk - It's kinda high in CMC, but can drop a ton of counters with a constrictor or two on the board.
Winding Constrictor - The main card in this deck. The deck is still strong without it... but gets MUCH better with one on the board.
Yahenni's Expertise - Should kill a lot of early drops, and is great to use with a Yahenni on the board after he's been pumped a little.
Yahenni, Undying Partisan - There are a decent number of kill spells in here, beyond just having creatures growing. This guy can quickly get out of hand.
