I’ve wanted to build a monoblack around Sheoldred since I started playing mtg (I’ve been playing for about a year), but I wasn't sure how I would build it. I love the grave, I love utilizing the grave, and I LOVE draining other players of their resources. This deck is designed around sacrifice, and forces other players to choose how they'll play creatures.

After having some time to see how this deck plays out, it's really delivering the way I expected it to. The downside is having high CMC creatures (as black would demand), but having cards like Cabal Coffers, Black Market, Crypt Ghast, Magus of the Coffers, and Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth allow me to pool more black mana. I also made sure to include a ton of removal, like Mutilate, Murder, Damnation, and Decree of Pain (just to name a few) due to the low amount of artifact/enchantment/land removal this deck provides. not to mention how broken Torment of Hailfire is when I have three different ways to make black mana for my mana pool.

I love the way this deck forces my opponents to dispose of their creatures. I have a great way to recur creatures with Ashnod's Altar with Sheoldred, Whispering One on the battlefield. By sacrificing these creatures at my opponent's endstep, Sheoldred allows me to abuse their ETB effects on my upkeep (this can also be achieved with Palace Siege). This is also a great way for me to buffer having sacrifice effects on my own board: cards like Ophiomancer and Abhorrent Overlord put tokens out for me, thus giving me a menial creature to sacrifice (without putting my other creatures out, especially if there's grave hate). not to mention!! the benefit of having these deaths with Black Market, whose counters never go away (despite the mana depleting every pre-combat phase---although, it never goes to waste in this deck).

I also like to have cards that allow me to tutor, or to tutor for the grave. cards like Diabolic Tutor and Rune-Scarred Demon allow me to search for cards that will synergize with my hand/battlefield. With Sheoldred, Buried Alive is absolutely divine; it allows me to place high CMC creatures in my grave, and then play them without paying their mana cost at my next upkeep (especially the biggie, It That Betrays).

Mono-black is a fucking powerhouse, especially once things start taking off and getting out of control. I hope you enjoy this deck as much as I do!
