I run modern merfolk and mine's pretty similar in structure to yours, take a look at it please Ebb and Flow (Merfolk). I like your use of Chalice of the Void in here. If you could check out my deck on my page and let me know what you think of it I'd really appreciate it. Thanks. +1

It is legal in modern. It was printed in Time Spiral, a modern legal set.

Aquitect's Will, because of Master of the Pearl Trident. Does the same thing as Spreading Seas, but is cheaper, less susceptible to removal, and will usually draw you a card. However, bear in mind that Aquitect's Will will add the land type Island, while Spreading Seas will replace the land type. Your call.

What exactly is the point of the Cosi's Trickster?

Just a suggestion because it's I think better than stony silence for anti affinity Hurkyl's Recall. Affinity about to swing for lethal? Drop that targeting them and they have to rebuild an entire board from scratch. And it doesn't affect the vial

Splashing White, but no Sejiri Merfolk? I always thought that that was one of the reasons (along with Path and SB cards) that fish players splashed white. Obviously it would mean your white splash would need to be a bit heavier (Effectively having 5 plains is a bit few to turn it on). I don't play a lot of fish, but that could be something to look at.

Thank you for that! I didn't know that existed but I really like it. I would have to run more fetchlands and Hallowed Fountains but it's definitely a good idea.

Hey, I like yoyr fiah deck too! Just seems like 4x Master of Waves might be a little much... maybe take out one or two for some cheaper Merfolk for early play?

Looking at yoyr curve though... Not too sure tbh, but my gut just tells me you don't need four

Yeah I've been thinking about cutting to 3, maybe adding another Sejiri Merfolk to the mainboard. I'm playing with it, but he's really good even at 4 mana. I'm looking for something better to play. I was considering Cryptic Command actually, because why not.

Because Cryptic Command is bad in Merfolk.
When you want to counter something, you us Remand, Spell Pierce or Unified Will. When you want to bounce one thing, it's more often than anything else a creature, so Vapor Snag. When it's more than one thing use Hurkyl's Recall for artifacts or Echoing Truth for anything else that might not be a creature. Echoing Truth can deal with any annoying Planeswalkers or Enchantments in your way, it also works for multiple creatures and is good against Token decks. It has more utility than boucing a single permanent. To draw, the deck uses Silvergill Adept and can use Remand.Merfolk doesn't want to choose the tap option because we're Islandwalking, we aren't worried about blockers. A combination of the above bounce effects plus Path to Exile, since we're splashing white, keeps us from worrying about attackers.
Mostly though, its costs four mana. To use it at instant speed you need to leave four mana open. With four mana, you're better off casting Lord of Atlantis, Sejiri Merfolk or Merrow Reejerey and holding the last one or two open for any of the above spells. With four mana, and a Merrow Reejerey on the field on turn four, you can: cast Silvergill Adept revealing Cursecatcher and get the draw, cast Cursecatcher to have a counter in place, tap or untap your own or your opponents permanents(not just creatures) as you go with Merrow Reejerey, and hold one or two mana depeneding what you tap/untap for Vapor Snag, Path to Exile, Echoing Truth as bounce/removal or for Spell Pierce, Remand or Unified Will to counter. You can choose all for modes for the same mana, maybe not at instant speed but it's better than choosing two and you're building a board precence here as well.
Cryptic Command is a great spell, I wouldn't say otherwise and it offers different choices but Merfolk decks can offer many more choices by making use of other spells and it's creature cards. Giving yourself all of those choices gives the deck more versatility (Y)

Hey vishnarg,
I am writing a primer for Modern Merfolk and I was wondering if you would be okay with me featuring this deck under my splash options category as a reference to a white splash list. Let me know what you think because this list looks almost exactly what my white splash deck looked like, except I included Harbinger of the Tides in the mainboard and I had Kira, Great Glass-Spinner sideboarded which is a strong alternative to your Monastery Siege. Kopala, Warden of Waves is also a strong newer option as well. I'd like to see ya freshen up this list because it looks really nice!

Master of Waves is well worth the investment here for 4 mana, because not only is he himself a Merfolk that is pumped by the other Merfolk lords, but makes at least several of those tokens when played and is a threat that has to be dealt with immediately. It is very often possible to attack for lethal the turn after he is played. Devotion in this deck by turn 4 is usually pretty high, so to me his value as a 4 mana bomb is unquestionable.
