Maelstrom Wanderer Deck

Commander / EDH* RUG (Temur)

Raitoken

Maybeboard

This is my current rendition of my Maelstrom Wanderer Deck.

I've been working on this deck since 2013 and slowly been improving it over the years. The goal is to ramp into the commander then cascade into more ramp or threats that have a high impact. I want to win through attacking so you will see no intentional infinite combos, blow out cards that end the game or mass land destruction. The idea is to be as competitive as possible and win through combat damage.

What I've learned about this deck over time is that I had too many 7 mana drops in here. This, while great when cascading into two of them which becomes a total blowout, hurts badly in the first few turns. Getting stuck with all 5+cmc cards in your hand with 2 land in play has cost me several games. So I upped the mana count to 38 to be more consistent with my land drops from 34 previously and have started lowering the curve. I still want each card to have a big impact when played or cascaded into. However removing more of the 7 drops in favor of better 5 drops to even out the bell curve is the plan. I want options before I get to my commander instead of nothing going on until I cast him. Not only do I want a better curve but I want card draw tied to those high impact cards. Cards like Elder Gargaroth are a perfect example of a high impact card that is not only a threat but adds utility and card draw with no drawbacks. I am still working on what spots I need to fill in the last few slots and will update when I get there.
