I wanted to make a deck that is mostly focused on combat. I have worked on this deck a lot to find out what kind of deck I wanted to make around Zurgo. It's heavy on enchantments since most decks I play against don't have a ton of enchantment removal or a way to deal with a lot of enchantments. Also, I love enchantments. They offer some of the best solutions to deal with a lot of decks. Since this deck is based around controlling the flow of battle, I've added enchantments you don't normally see in most decks. Some of them have synergy with each other as well as with some of the creatures. Here are some of the different combinations this deck offers.

Grand Melee/Goblin Diplomats + No Mercy/Teysa, Envoy of Ghosts- Take a big hit, but wipe out all of your opponents creatures in the process.

Grand Abolisher+ Curse of Exhaustion- Lock your opponents down to only playing one spell only during their turn.

Obliterate + Zurgo Helmsmasher- Wipe everything but your general and your enchantments... maybe a planeswalker or two. Take advantage of board wipes since your general is indestructible when you cast them.

Wars Toll + Basandra, Battle Seraph/Boros Battleshaper-Make opponents attack with those annoying utility creatures since you will be dominating the battlefield.

Urabrask, the Hidden/Gideon Jura/Loxodon Gatekeeper+ Royal Assassin- Getting rid of the annoying creatures before they get a shot at you is always good.

Lashwrithe+Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth- Depending on the flow of the game, slapping Lashwrithe on Zurgo can be the fatal blow to your opponents.

Things to watch out for in this deck:

  1. Watch your life. There's a lot of card draw and card advancement that will take your life down quickly. It also doesn't have a lot of ways to gain life.

  2. Over committing. I wouldn't throw all your tricks down right away. The deck has a decent amount of tutors so wait and react accordingly.

  3. Tokens. Although this deck is committed to the battle, it just can't keep up with tokens. I would sideboard in cards like Mardu Ascendancy, Ghostly Prison, Militia's Pride, Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite, or Assemble the Legion.

4.Discarding. Playing this deck against discard decks just sucks. I would sideboard Leyline of Sanctity, Witchbane Orb, or Ivory Mask.
