At the start of Theros per-release I began hunting down certain red cards for a deck idea. I was greatly impressed by Anax, Hardened in the Forge and set about building a deck for the card. I settled on a low CMC aggressive list using Anax as wipe protection and allow for replacement of lost creatures. Embercleave ties the deck together and makes blocking hard for opponents. Having escape on Phoenix of Ash allows for easy recursion and the fire-breathing effect with evasion is helpful. It also holds a sword amazingly well too.
