I constructed this deck a while ago, figured I'd post it. I made a few changes to the stock version of the deck, which has fallen out of favor, so it doesn't get much love.
For those that don't know how cephalid breakfast works. it is centered around a card called Cephalid Illusionist. you can target Cephalid Illusionist without paying anything with the abilities of Nomads en-Kor or Shuko (if you play this deck you should be prepared to prove to people the errata on nomads and/or the fact that you can re-equip shuko to the same creature), thus milling your whole library, which brings out narcomeaba, which you sacrifice to dread return to bring back The Mimeoplasm copies Triskelion with Lord of Extinction power = lethal.
this is a budget version of the deck. which is why no force, although if I did run force i'd have to include more blue cards...
I run Swan Song over Spell Pierce because I think its cute. I do think the pierce is slightly better for the deck.
this deck cannot ever beat a resolved Humility ever. the plan verses that card is kill them before the play it.
there are three different ways of finishing off an opponent in Cephalid Breakfast:
1) Death Cultist, Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker, Necrotic Ooze, and Dwarven Strike Force
2) Angel of Glory's Rise, Azami, Lady of Scrolls, and Laboratory Maniac
3) The Mimeoplasm, Triskelion, and Lord of Extinction
you shouldn't run the first one because on top of the fact that it takes 4 pieces, it also can be cold stopped by a single removal spell. as for the second and third there are pluses and minuses, but mostly they are corner cases. angel can be stopped with a pair of removal spells or the like, but wins though an opponent gaining 25 life (which has happened to me). on the other hand, the mimeoplasm deals lethal without passing priority. ultimately i choose the mimeoplasm because who WOULDN'T want to play that in legacy?
the Phantasmagorian is literally the only card in magic that has a ability that lets you discard cards from your hand and you can activate from your graveyard. its sort of terrible and I'm not really convinced that the slot is worth it to get win combo pieces into your grave verses a disruption spell. without it you can still get them out of hand with a brainstorm. I might put another swansong in over it, but it's close.
Caustic Caterpillar is a tutor-able maindeck hate card for relic of progenetus and Tormod's Crypt if you can get them to pop their grave hate before you go off they don't impede you. and there's more in the board because people WILL bring them in verses you. I have considered Qasali Pridemage and Reclamation Sage. they're probably just as good.
Faerie Macabre and Nihil Spellbomb are my grave hate, to stymie dredge's fastest starts. I like the faerie because its tutor-able and free.
Silence is anti Spanish inquisition and charbelcher tech. silencing them can stall them a turn so that you (who usually goes off a turn or two after) can beat them. oh, and you can use it to protect your combo, that too. Abeyance is sort of awful but it turns off Deathrite Shaman
Thoughtseize is for matchups where disrupting the opponent is super important. you can tell when you are in this matchup when you are hardcasting Cabal Therapy. together they make a fairly potent disruption package. when I bring in the Thoughtseize I also bring in the Watery Grave so that my fetches can tutor black.
