What other options do we have for waking up your lands? I like the idea, especially on the rebound turn of World at War where we have some mana to spare.

Awaken the Ancient, Crusher Zendikon, Genju of the Spires, Koth of the Hammer are the best. Though I would be very careful not to go too far away from the elemental theme.

Koth makes the animated land an elemental, so that seems good.

What about Siege of Towers? I could see turn 5 World at War, fight fight fight, turn 6 rebound World at War then, depending on however many blockers your opponent has left, if any, you cast Siege of Towers and replicate it twice either before the first or second combat. Ideally the first to get them to attack twice, but if you need to protect them from blockers, before the second would work too.

Or, maybe even better, what about Tempt with Vengeance? With Incandescent Soulstoke out, that'd be a whole lot of 2/2s. Your opponent is screwed no matter which they choose.

Sagarys It's just silly enough to work. Also, Coalition Relic could be fun, with some adjustments. Here's what I figured out: Turn 3 Relic, put a counter on it, then on turn 4 remove the counter for , play a land, tap the relic for , and with the lands and the relic's mana you can cast World at War on the fourth turn, instead of the sixth.

Tempt with Vengeance isn't Modern legal, so it would just be for shiggles around the kitchen table. Siege of Towers would need to be subbed in for actual sanctioned events. Both are super cheap though.

jandrobard, I like that combo a lot. Looks like Coalition Relic runs about $5 a copy though, so it's out of my ultra-budget deck range.

Keep the ideas coming though!

I think you were right FAMOUSWATERMELON, 22 lands feels like too much after a few playtests.

Er, 24.

Man, holy cats! After playtesting this thing against a couple decks, it's nuts how aggro it is. It brings some RDW level heat very quickly.

May 6, 2015 7:54 p.m.

This deck... It is pure awesome. I've play tested a few times and I can crank out turn 5/6 kills like its nothing! Good deck, +1. Solid build.

Thanks man! I've had the same experience. I didn't expect it to be so strong and fast when I brewed it. It's awesome!

jandrobard says... #13

Do you consider this a successful brew?

May 7, 2015 12:53 p.m.

Sagarys says... #14

I do. I'm sure there's room for improvement, but within the constraints of the budget, it's pretty strong.

Keep in mind you are brewing mono-red, which doesn't have as many oddball cards or weird strategies as other colors.

You might want to change the name to $30 dollars instead now. Sometimes $5 bucks can make or break a budget, like mine sadly. Anyway, great job on the deck. I really like the addition of Siege of Towers. Ever thought about adding a Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx so you can be sure to have enough mana to make it effective? It might not work as well because most of the cards only have 1 in it's cost, but still. It could free up a lot more land so you are able to attack the same time it's cast.

May 7, 2015 1:23 p.m.

Sagarys says... #17

SirFowler, the Shrine is about $7. It'd be a non-budget option. As for the price, TCGPlayer optimizes it to right around $25 without the lands. If it goes up anymore, I'll change it.

Sagarys says... #18

jandrobard, that does help quite a bit.

May 7, 2015 1:33 p.m.

SirFowler says... #19

Wow, last time I checked, Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx was around $2. What's wrong with country when you can't even get good cardboard anymore for a cheap price?

Unless you're summoning 3 creatures that cost 2 or more in a turn, (which I don't think you will be) Smokebraider trumps Brighthearth Banneret

Even by putting the word "Budget" in the name and by finding ways to bring its price under $50 (20 tix o-o'), my last deck only lasted two days before being beaten by this one... Fuck my life, I don't know if I should hate you or worship you for shitting so magnificently on my pride. TT-TT

nice deck. I might just build this for tribal wars

May 7, 2015 4:18 p.m.

Sagarys says... #23

nzosher, I'm not sure I agree. I agree that they're definitely on par. But the Banneret, if you get unlucky draws and he comes down later than turn 2, provides his benefit the turn he comes down, allowing you to spit something else out cheaper that turn. He also gives his benefit to casting additional copies of himself later in the game, and those stack. And in a pinch he can chump block because you don't have to tap him to get his benefit. I can see him as a viable alternative, but I wouldn't call him strictly better. Unless I'm missing something.
