So I built a zombies list when SOI first released based on abusing Relentless Dead. It was essentially a cheapo version of Terrence Johnstone's list that was featured on MTGGoldfish a couple months ago since I was too stingy to spring for a playset of Jace, Vryn's Prodigy
. It was fun to play, though not terribly powerful. Its main issue was that if I didn't have Relentless Dead in my opening hand, the deck didn't really do anything until turn 3, which was often too slow. But I had hopes that Eldritch Moon would strengthen it - thankfully Wizards didn't disappoint :)
Cryptbreaker looks like it could be exactly what the deck was missing in terms of an early drop that can impact the board. Liliana, the Last Hope seems like it could be strong here too as another way to gain card advantage and keep the graveyard full of zombies - Tapped Out doesn't seem to recognize the new Lily yet, but the deck is supposed to have a split of 1 Liliana, Heretical Healer
and 2 Liliana, the Last Hope.Lastly, Gisa and Geralf provide another method by which to cast zombies from the yard and trigger our Prized Amalgam
Nantuko Husk and the singleton Altar's Reap can help protect our zombies from exile effects, as they're relatively easy to resurrect from the graveyard. Zulaport Cutthroat alongside Nantuko Husk can use the zombie army generated by Cryptbreaker to push damage through a stalled board.
Some other cards I've thought about that are currently listed in the sideboard but may deserve spots in the main deck are From Under the Floorboards and Welcome to the Fold. They both seem good in certain situations and Cryptbreaker allows us to Madness them for great value and at instant speed.
I'm very stoked for this set to come out to try this deck, and feel it could have legitimate potential - almost certainly not Tier 1, but hopefully a reasonably competitive, fun tribal deck.
