Purphoros, God of Tokens

Standard RW (Boros)

Harook

Sideboard

Maybeboard

Creature (1)

Welcome to the playground of our overlord

Purphoros

The idea is simple. Stall till you can play Purphoros, God of the Forge. Play tons of token generators. Burn enemy face off.

Every time a creature hits your side of the field, Purphoros, God of the Forge smacks your opponent for 2 (Or any planeswalkers he might have!). This means that our spells and creatures that make more creatures do double duty. We can block all day and still bring the enemy to 0.

But one of the best parts of this deck is that your creature and spell base is solid. Token generating spells and creatures tend to be quite strong on their own. So for example, while sure, Brimaz, King of Oreskos has the chance to pop your enemy for 2 each turn attacking and blocking by making his little friends, he's also an amazing creature on his own.

Let's break the cards down:

Creatures

Instants/Sorceries

Walkers and Enchantments

So today I brought the deck to it's second FNM with most of the changes (I couldn't find a second Arc Lighning). But the store owner was offering incentives for people to play Modern instead of Standard so I switched. But since I don't actually Have a modern deck, I used this deck! And I ended up taking 2nd place too!

Round 1 - Mono Red Goblins. Game 1 was rough, my deck was too mid range to deal with how fast his deck was. Tokens almost pulled me through but I wasn't able to stabilize quickly enough. Games 2 and 3 I sided in very heavily, even taking out Purphoros and was able to deal much more effectively with his threats.

Round 2 - White/Black Demons/Humans - This deck had a lot of scary threats with evasion for low cost, but my banishing spells easily allowed me to deal with undying and similar mechanics.

Round 3 - White Lifegain - Oh god was this deck scary. Every game I saw Serra Ascendant and the two games I lost (1 and 3)I also saw Martyr of Sands within the first few turns, automatically turning the Ascendants on. The one game I won because of two Wingmate Roc pulling my life total back up from almost nothing.

Overall a fun night, I got two promo cards and a pack for 6 bucks. Held my own against decks with much larger card pools than my own.
