Enchantment (2)

Sorcery (2)

My take on a Modern version of the popular W/U heroic standard deck. The idea is similar to the modern Bogles deck, where you pump up a single creature or 2 to win. Instead of having natural evasion and using pump spells, heroic creatures have natural pump and we'll use evasion spells to protect them!

Why these cards?-

Rebound is a mechanic that was made for heroic. Since this is modern, we can have a mana base that gives us access to the best rebound spells for an aggressive deck (in this case, Bant). Emerge Unscathed, Prey's Vengeance , and Distortion Strike all pull double duty here, giving virtual card advantage and double heroic triggers. It works with Heroic since the Rebound spell is 'cast' from exile if you choose to do so.

The creatures I've chosen all have Heroic (duh) and 2+ toughness, which is important to avoid getting blown out by cards like Electrolyze and Forked Bolt (a common problem in infect decks). With Young Pyromancers and unflipped Delvers running around everywhere nowadays, people are gunning against 1 toughness guys which is why I decided against including the red Heroic creatures and going Naya.

The Ordeal enchantments fulfill as important of a role in modern as they do in standard. Upon resolution they give +2/+2 counters when entering the attack step along with their much needed effects. White and Green traditionally don't draw many cards, but drawing 2 off Ordeal of Thassa helps refill our hand with pump/protection spells. Ordeal of Heliod helps gain back the life we lose running 3 colors in modern with fetches and shocks (as well as hedging against red decks).

The non-rebound pump spells used include Defiant Strike (it pumps, it cantrips, it triggers Heroic, what more could you want?), Vines of Vastwood (helps against Splinter Twin and is protection itself) and most importantly Mutagenic Growth (pay 2 life for a free Giant Growth and protects our turn 1 creatures from Lightning Bolt!).

Gods Willing fills a protection role as well as helps smooth our draws with scry, and is another form of evasion.

The SB so far is pretty generic. Spellskite to protect our dudes, counterspells against control decks/sweepers, and artifact/enchantment hate (an early blood moon is bad for this deck). Wild Defiance comes in against control, and is bonkers with our deck! If there's one card I'd like to find room for in the MD, it's this one. If only it didn't cost so much....(mana).

As you can see, nothing in the maindeck costs more than 2 mana, so this deck is designed to hit low and fast. Getting 3 lands into play is normally all you need, and with 8 fetches I find that I'm rarely color screwed.

If there's a card I'm overlooking that would help make this deck even more awesome, please let me know! Otherwise if you like this deck, +1!

Thanks for looking!

Updates Add

I'm thinking about changing this deck to just a GW build. The mana would be much more consistent, and I could add in good cards like Dromoka's Command and additional pump spells (Become Immense anyone?). I'd also likely add the Hardened Scales idea as well as free up space for the full set of Mutagenic Growth. My main concern is losing out on the card drawing power and unblockability of blue. However, using more green pump spells could add to the explosiveness of my draws and the Hardened Scales might be enough value in the longer games to make up for it. What do you think?
