I'm not super excited about aggro madness vampires, I dont see it living long with all its front-loaded creatures and bad draw. The tricolor manabase seems wonky for madness as well so heres a shot at a A Midrange Deck of RB Madness
Madness has potential, it removes the downsides of good cards by casting off the discard, lets creatures be cast at instant speed, fixes up delirium, which is why this deck is all about that and late in the game you can toss that flood away and make some real plays with madness. BUT it really needs to either draw lots of cards or get value off the graveyard to to work well.
Madness empties your hand, even casting off the discard you are still mostly 1 for 1ing your opponent but the
Asylum Visitor
+ Avaricious Dragon combo rewards you for dropping all your spells and turning an empty hand into serious card advantage.
CARD DRAWFirst off is Tormenting Voice for its draws and madness triggers. 2 mana, 2 cards for 2 draws is a solid turn two play, even discarding a land or an uncastable chandra early game to set up delirium for the
Mindwrack Demon
The combo of Asylum Visitor
+
Avaricious Dragon
is surely a risky (greedy?) play but with the potential for incredible card draw for mid/late game. Besides, Madness drops cards from your hand very quickly, and if youve got the dragon is on hand you have incentive to play out those madness cards quickly and use the dragon to refill your hand every turn. Comboing with
Asylum Visitor
lets you draw 3 cards every turn. Even one turn of this is dangerous, two is pretty ridiculous, going unresponsive on your opponents turn can be dangerous, but being able to flood the board with threats certainly puts them in a precarious position.
GRAVEYARD VALUE:Setting up delirium in the graveyard makes the
Mindwrack Demon
a natural choice for a threat. There isn't much casting from the graveyard possible in the current standard for RB (ugh blue gets it all??) but Goblin Dark-Dwellers can recast some solid removal, a Tormenting Voice or even a Kolaghan's Command and reclaim a creature. The
Drownyard Temple
can be thrown away on turns 1/2 and be brought back as ramp!
Inverter of Truth
is another risky play i've considered, if the positioning in the game is right, the Inverter can win you the game. Especially if they're low on cards. but for consistency and delirium i'd rather just have a second Kalitas, Traitor of Ghet There will be games where I might want to have these in the side (Like against w/g or w/b good stuff)
Call the Bloodline sets up delirium by getting that odd extra enchantment card type into the deck, It gives you a semi relevant token (With Lifelink!) When combo'd on turn 3 with Fiery Temper or
Asylum Visitor
With a live avarice dragon it turns uncastable spells or lands into 1/1's with lifelink and lets you stall a stable board into a win condition. Also Kalitas, Traitor of Ghet can eat these tokens and actually put more strength on my field (effectively +2/+2 counters for 4 mana + discard) With my one off of Drana, Liberator of Malakir and Westvale Abbey
I can turn a token army into something crazy. Its worth noting that Chandra, Flamecaller besides doing EVERYTHING YOU WANT can fuel the abbey as well.
I've been strongly considering
Sinister Concoction
, It pretty much guarantees delirium on activation and triggers madness.
Obviously deck i'm most concerned about is U/W. The thought of
Always Watching
+ Dragonlord Ojutai +
Archangel of Tithes
is scary and without the counters from Olivia, Mobilized for War their creatures will stall or outclass this deck's. Thats probably a matchup where i'd definitely prefer
Inverter of Truth
to Kalitas. and go heavier on the removal.Definitely want
Rending Volley
in the side, to make those Thing in the Ice
players sad. And Grasp of Darkness didnt make it in, but maybe im underestimating the eldrazi there, but Reality Smasher just isnt as painful to madness players if i can do something with that discard (in theory?)
Still Just a draft! Looking for suggestions!
