Sideboard

this is my current competitive modern deck. The list has a number of important slots so i'll break them down here.

One Mana Threats:Delver of Secrets   the titular delver of secrets is our best turn one play. Easy to set up with Serum Visions and one of the reasons we're running so many instants and sorceries. A turn one Delver is how we win many games.

Tasigur, the Golden Fang + Gurmag Angler the delve Threats, while not great on turn one, act as one mana plays easily in this deck, helped by cheap interaction and our cantrips ( Serum Visions and Thought Scour )

two mana spells-matter:Here we're playing a variety of cost-effective threats that capitalize on the number of instants and sorceries in the deck

Young Pyromancer Young peezy, as he is often called, dominates many boardstates. Creature decks have a hard time dealing with infinite chump blockers, control decks are forced to pick off the elementals one-by-one(barring a sweeper) and against combo decks we have outs to race.

Thing in the Ice   a new addition, thing in the ice mostly resides in the sideboard for against creature decks and combo decks. Against any deck with a lot of removal thing looks awful compared to pyro which is why we only run one in the main but his main advantage is the bounce ability. It synergizes with our Snapcaster Mages and Spellskites post-board(horror tribal anyone?), murders tokens and is a good card in a "goldfish" matchup.

Jace, Vryn's Prodigy   jace excells in a grindy matchup like jund where flashing back terminates is a big game. we only have one so we never draw them in multiples.

spellsOne of the greatest strengths of this deck is the "toolbox" nature of the Snapcaster Mage + Thought Scour combo. We get to play useful one ofs (and 4 ofs like Lightning Bolt) to deal with many decks. sometimes a manaleak is more useful, sometimes you need to have the low cost of Spell Pierce. this combo gives you the option of either if you hit them.

a quick aside: Kolaghan's Command murders affinity. straight up. Electrolyze is for lingering souls.

the manabase is pretty straightforward: you always want an untapped blue source on turn one for delver. next turn you'll probably want to cantrip and cast a bolt or possibly a delve threat. fetchlands also work well with delver because you can shuffle away a bad card before you move to draw step.
