Changelog

One new card from M21 looks good enough to add: Subira, Tulzidi Caravanner , but it's also a good time to take a step back and look at some of the good red cards from the past year. There's a lot of great red cards, but they all play better with tokens - either creating them or pumping them up.

Some of the better 3-drops in the deck are already making tokens, so I think it makes sense to lean more into the theme and cut some of the worse 3-drops in the deck.

Fireflux Squad is a big win from C20. It looks like it can pretty easily upgrade a token or a mediocre 2 drop into something better. Notably it's a may, so you're not forced to sacrifice one of your better cards if you're unlikely to hit.

Everquill Phoenix looks interesting - at least worth trying out, and Bonders' Enclave feels pretty free in a deck that already wants to play colorless lands and whose gameplan is slamming big threats.

Strip Mine was updated from 2 to 3 points, which means my spread of Sol Ring , Mana Crypt , and Strip Mine is now illegal at 11 points.

Theros also brings two cards that seem worth trying: Tectonic Giant (which seems especially awesome) and Phoenix of Ash . Tectonic Giant is likely to get in at least 3 damage or a card if it resolves (and attacks for 6 points of damage) and phoenix is a solid recursive threat in a deck that otherwise doesn't use the graveyard.

To make room I'm cutting some interaction that I rarely feel good about casting. That might be wrong but Slaying Fire feels super slow. Since I'm raising the curve I'm replacing the Strip Mine with a basic land. And now that I have two cards that care about the graveyard (new phoenix and Grim Lavamancer ), I'm adding in the red fetches to help feed that.
