What would happen if somebody +1'd Sarkhan, the Dragonspeaker and fused him to another creature, also, I may have missed it in the rules, but do the fused creatures get the abilities of other creature(s)?

to PValBlanc: Yeah, me and my brother (co-creator of this format) have played this a lot, although we do not have decks specially made for it... yet.

To MTGMachine: I am not sure what would happen int this situation. It is a kink in the rulebook I have not worked out yet, and I would like help/suggestions on what should happen in a situation such as this. And yes, a battlebuddy team has all affects of the constituent creatures.

January 18, 2015 6:24 p.m.

Well, for Sarkhan, wouldn't you just un-fuse him at the end of combat?

I think so...I'll put it in the rulebook

Hey, uh, so you're running a green-blue deck.

Maybe, just maybe, you should not have Mountains in it. What with the bit about not needing red mana and needing other mana.

January 18, 2015 9:38 p.m.

Yeah, what's with the land status here? Is there some rule regarding that too?

January 18, 2015 10:10 p.m.

Also, shouldn't Followed Footsteps be banned?

January 18, 2015 10:15 p.m.

I don't know, Followed Footsteps is good, but it's no Spawnwrithe. And since Spawnwrithe isn't banned, I don't think Followed Footsteps should be either.

January 18, 2015 10:51 p.m.

Well, you banned Progenitor Mimic and this is basically the same thing. And what about the lands??

January 18, 2015 11:16 p.m.

hafnera says... #11

O yes, about the lands: There is no rule regarding the lands, so they work just as they do in real MTG, I just haven't figured out how much of each and I'm gonna put in there, but I'll do it today.

And yes, you made a great point about the whole Progenitor Mimic and fallowed footsteps dilemma. They have almost the exact same effect on the game, and one of them is banned and the other is not. So what should I do? Ban both? Legalize both? Have it so that only 1 can be in a deck?

January 19, 2015 10:25 a.m.

I think ban both or make them a 1-of. Because if you're able to cast that on an Emrakul, the Aeons Torn or some combination of big creatures, you win.

does the legendary rule apply? how all would it be applied? id suggest banning ALL cloning abilities to keep it simple but thats just my opinion. Seems cool. I will have to try it out

Also pay attention to easy combos. A definite ban is pili-pala, pili-pala + many, many of the creatures in magic is infinite mana.

haha I like the name (which was the main reason I clicked on this, actually. I made an account just to comment). I saw "battle buddies" and thought "this guy must've gone through basic or something" and I saw that link you posted. Turns out, the Drill Sergeant is wearing a 3rd Chemical Brigade unit patch, which is the brigade I was in at Fort Leonard Wood up until November. Just thought it was a funny coincidence. You in the military or planning on joining up?

its sick that you made a new format, DERPLINGSUPREME. I'll give it a +1.

No, idont think the legendary rule should apply. I'm not sure about banning the clone abilities, I'll have to get some more opinions on that.

Thanks for the tips, adbirk.

cdhunt6282, I am not in the military, as I'm only in 8th grade. But thank you for your service.

can i just make a control deck with all the removal and just win?

January 24, 2015 9:35 a.m.

hafnera says... #21

That is an issue I would like to adress. Yeah, I think you could, with the current rules, so what can I do to stop that? Hexproof is the first line of defense against control, but it doesn't work for everything. I do not honestly know what to do about that, so I need you guys to help me out.

January 24, 2015 1:15 p.m.

how about instead of both dying, the one that was originaly killed dies, but the other goes to your hand?

January 24, 2015 3:30 p.m.

hafnera says... #23

Actually, I'm not sure how much of a problem control decks are. This format basically amps everything up. Removal effects can be devastating when they target battle buddy teams, but at the same time, battle buddy teams can be devastating for obvious reasons. It cancels out.

Furthermore, most removal spells can be negated by having one battle buddy with hexproof/shroud, or giving the team protection from a color. So hexproof/shroud or protection would a huge part of any battle buddies deck. What removal effects can't be negated by hexproof and the like are ones that remove ALL creatures (and therefore don't target anything), and in that case it makes no difference whether your creatures were teamed up or not--it's no different than normal MtG.

Also, it is a bad idea to have too many "remove all creatures" cards because a player needs creatures to win, as the starting life total is so high.
