Its very likely that guardian is being banned from standard. Sorry dude

BoardFire actually I highly doubt that wizards didn't think of this combo. The lack of tutors makes it balanced.

Exiled_soul I was unsure of how I felt about having Baral, Chief of Compliance and was thinking of cutting him. As far as Fragmentize goes I thought it was MB worthy due to the amount of artifacts that seem to be fairly standard in most decks at the moment. Though arguing the counters I have should be enough to deal with any of those shenanigans.
BoardFire If they ban it then they ban it I guess, no reason I shouldn't be exploiting a deck win strategy in the meantime. I also agree with InfuriatedBrute that the lack of tutors make it more balanced.

I mean imo it's pretty "antifun" since it's very random whether they draw the two-card combo, and it makes the card's unique uses useless since you only want to cast them for the instant win, but that doesn't make it unbalanced. It's a 2-card turn 6 win that you draw (and cast) ~33% of the time unless your opponent is properly using counterspells and/or Transgress the Mind. It might see some competitive play, but it probably won't be top-tier.

Exiled_soul Well it actually looks like I'll not be using that reflector mage in this deck haha. 2017 updated ban list

funny how they mentioned white/blue flash so much, then banned a card without flash.

CRuD3L1S Right? I'm not even sure what if anything I will run in place of Reflector Mage. For now I added 1 more Felidar Guardian and 2 Call the Gatewatch

They probably banned it because they thought Spell Queller was too cool to be banned. Also funny how they added counterplay to copter via Heart of Kiran then banned it.

I'll preface this comment with 'I've only been into Magic for a short while'
My idea that I had was to use Acrobatic Maneuver in my Disappearing Torrential Gearhulk deck to gain the ability to reuse Torrential Gearhulk's ability and also draw a card. I had seem a few decks with it, but not alot seemed to utilize it. I thought I had found a neat gem of a card.
While on the other hand though I know that Felidar Guardian is a new card coming out with a similar ability. My thought is this: Even though it cost less to use, and it is a 1/4 creature is it worth it to lose the draw a card ability?
Forgive me If this seems a stupid question, but why am I seeing more decks with Felidar Guardian instead of Acrobatic Maneuver? Is it something obvious that I'm not seeing? Or is the ability to draw one card just not that important when you have combos like Torrential Gearhulk + Glimmer of Genius in your arsenal.

Jwillette72 With Felidar Guardian and Saheeli Rai you can make infinite 1/4 copies of Felidar with haste. Play Felidar, bounce Saheeli and she reenters as a new plainswalker. Then just -2 again and repeat until happy.

Ahhhh, I see! Thanks for that! I tried to edit my comment, but it gave me an error that I couldn't edit it. So I assume you have to edit before someone else comments. What I was also going to say was that I also noticed on Panharmonicon, a card that I planned to try and incorporate into my deck and hadn't yet, but probably will now, is that it lets you reuse an enter the battlefield ability of an artifact or creature card that enters the battlefield under your control. So I see how it would be more beneficial in relation to Felidar Guardian since it's a creature and Acrobatic Maneuver isn't.
This brings up a question though If I have Panharmonicon and Torrential Gearhulk down on the field and play Felidar Guardian I could exile Torrential Gearhulk and then bring him right back to the battlefield and get to use is ETB effect. Would Panharmonicon activate and allow me to Torrential Gearhulk again? or Felidar Guardian again?

Jwillette72 The way I'm reading Panharmonicon is that a creature entering has to ETB and cause a trigger on a permanent that you control to trigger then it would happen an additional time. If you had a Decoction Module and a Panharmonicon and you played Whirler Virtuoso.

Thanks, that makes sense. So much for my awesome Idea.

With no other targets for Call the Gatewatch running one of those in place of the fourth Saheeli Rai is just very bad. Drawing it instead of a saheeli is almost like paying six mana for her instead of three.

Dalektable So would you just run a 4th Saheeli Rai instead? Or get rid of the 2 Call the Gatewatch and in place run Nahiri, the Harbinger?

I highly recommend just playing a streamlined control deck with the copy cat combo as a finisher. Call the Gatewatch is unnecessary, the deck has enough card draw and filtering, it doesnt need 5 Saheeli. Play 4 of each combo piece, focus on controlling the game, then kill your opponent when they let the shields down or you can protect the combo.

907phringe Creature ETB effects do indeed work with Panharmonicon. The creature that enters the battlefield triggers the ETB effect of a permanent--even if it's itself. Or did I misunderstand Jwillette72entirely?

myronrocks Yeah I guess I just totally spaced on that. My bad Jwillette72

myronrocks So to finalize my thought.
I've got Panharmonicon down I flash in Torrential Gearhulk and use his ability. Since I have Panharmonicon down I can use Torrential Gearhulk's ability again. Then I can play Felidar Guardian which allows me to blink Torrential Gearhulk and use his ability again. My question is does Panharmonicon's ability activate again and let me use Felidar Guardian's ability again and Torrential Gearhulk's ability again? Because they both have ETB effects.

Jwillette72 so long as you have Panharmonicon on the battlefield initially, any artifact or creature that you cast subsequently and that has an ETB ability will trigger twice. So you will get a Torrential Gearhulk trigger twice, and a Felidar Guardian trigger twice. So you could in theory play TG, flash an instant from graveyard 2x; play FG, flicker TG, TG comes back in, triggering TG ETB effect twice again, and then presumably flicker again with the final FG ETB effect still on the stack.
What I'm not super clear on is whether you can stack these effects to all go off in the sequence you'd want, or whether FG's second ETB effect fizzles while TG is exiled. You might end up permanently exiling TG due to this weird rule used in modern with Fiend Hunter and Oblivion Ring to permanently exile stuff. Look that combo up for details.
Any way the bottom line is you'll get a bunch of ETB triggers. How they are stacked is completely unclear to me. Im certainly not any kind of MTG judge.

Thanks myronrocks after work I'll look up that combo and then I'll probably post a question on the rules forum to find out how it works for sure. Thanks for all of the help guys.

Jwillette72: When Felidar Guardian enters with Panharmonicon, the exile ability goes onto the stack twice. If you choose Torrential Gearhulk for both targets, it will become an illegal target for the second trigger because it left the battlefield and re-entered. Basically, when anything enters from exile, it is treated like an entirely new card, and any spell or ability that targeted the original will "fizzle." If you happen to have two Gearhulks, it works perfectly because you can target each one individually.

Ah, I see what you mean Primusfan42. Thanks for that. I need to get better at using the stack. It can be confusing at times.

Seeing as you are running 5 counters in the main baral doesnt seem worth a slot to me. At this point he looks like a win more kind of card. More Reflector Mages and Felidar Guardians are the way I would go. Oh and the fragmentize looks a bit odd in the MB. If you want to hate on artifacts etc might i suggest Nahiri, the Harbinger?
