Also, Vexing Devil fell out of favor due to the fact that half the time it just comes in and eats a bolt. If he were a 4/4 it might be a different story.

Deflecting Palm over Lightning Helix in the sideboard.

Deflecting Palm is meh. At best it's a one-time punisher. Staying ahead of your opponent in the mirror is more important.
February 28, 2015 8:04 a.m.
YamishiTheWickedOne - Nope, deflecting palm is burns only good option to beat Bogles, and deals more damage to a player than helix does, helix is only better if you want to burn creatures, or if you want to play it mainboard. But against literally every single machup you would want to side it in Palm is better.

Based on recent turn outs at major events, the mirror is the much more common match up. And you would use Destructive Revelry to hit Bogle's lifelink enchants.
February 28, 2015 9:13 a.m.
Okay I will give you that, Helix is actually better in the mirror, but Palm is also a bit better against Junk.
February 28, 2015 9:25 a.m.
If you can deflecting Palm a siege rhino or batterskull, then you're usubg two mana to a) prevent that damage from yourself b) two mana for 4-5 damage. That's as good as or better than Boros charm.

Hate to abruptly change the subject, but has anyone tested Soulfire Grand Master? While the topic of the mirror is still fresh, I'd like to bring him up.
February 28, 2015 10:19 a.m.
yeah i teste sfgm out of the board, i wasn't a fan as it pretty much always died before i could take advantage of the lifelink, and i wouldve rather spent that 2 mana on burn
February 28, 2015 10:37 a.m.
Soulfire Grand Master is only good in standard, and even there he's outclassed by Seeker of the Way. for mirror match, Kor Firewalker is what you want to run.

I feel like he's kind of slow myself. Firewalkers and Dragon's Claw have been more to my liking. And I'm still on the fence about Helix either way. I prefer to have more 1 cmc cards and fewer 2 cmc mained.

Just wanted to hear other people's opinions, since I haven't personally tested him.
February 28, 2015 11:32 a.m.
He's better in slower strategies I'd say, it's not that he's bad in modern, burn just isn't his deck. I could see him in the sideboard of a UWR control deck.

$400 is not budget, but great deck. Maybe the Zurgo from dragons of tarkir.

Have you considered Crackling Doom for your mainboard? It's a good game 1 card and can easily be toolboxed out for your more appropriate removal. Also gets around hexproof and shroud since it makes the opponents (key word since it acts as a wrath because of it so screw layline) sacrifice their creatures and they take a Shock or a walker of theirs does if need be.
March 5, 2015 5:45 p.m.
Guardians 400 dollars is budget when you consider that goyfs are 200 bucks, karn is fifty, bob and liliana are 80, scapeshift and twin are 25, damnation is 50 and mox opal is 60. Furthermore most of the money comes out of those fetches and goblin guides, and as soon as I picked them up the rest of the deck was onlty a few bucks. About zurgo, I don't think that he is ready to see competitive eternal play. he lacks the haste of the gg's and getting info about the top of their deck is nice. I do believe that he could be a budget option however I think that the guides are far better. I also think that he may be worth speculating on, I'm going to pick up a playset as soon as he drops.

JamesfurrowI'm actually going to add that into the description, but I don't really have any problems with bogles in my local meta, and if anything like thrunn gets played, I probably have already lost, and I dont want to pay 3 for two daamage. I also feel as if they have leyline and i haven't already removed it I have lost, and two damage won't save me

post-dragons, keep an eye out for atarka's command. seeing as every burn is already splashing green, we can say hello to skullcrack on crystal meth.
March 5, 2015 9:18 p.m.
I am looking at it, but it doesn't prevent damage, so it doesn't get around pro red, though the options may outweigh that. Only time will tell

What in this meta actually prevents damage? Also, I believe skullcrack can be redirected while this can't.

also, I find the board to be a meta call, I think ill run rain of gore and charm just cuz of the local meta
