Thanks Necrotize. Those Axes look great. And what I would give to afford promo Wheel of Fortune. I'll add them to the maybeboard

may I also recommend Skullcrack in the place of Wild Slash since it provides a more aggressive kind of damage permanence. For your sideboard; Red Elemental Blast & Pyroblast are sure to catch your blue-playing opponents off-guard

Thanks Doctor_ando. Full of useful ideas.

If you're looking for speed on mainboard, I'd recommend taking out the taurean mauler for maybe an eidolon of the great revel. Other than that looks great +1

Thanks HoweYouDrewin. I need to get over my fear of him damaging me. Will have to playtest.

Since your running Dual Caster Mage, might as well run Twinflame to go infinite loop.

Bahaha. That's hilarios clkx. That might just find its way in

What about Mana Flare? It helps you cast Dualcaster Mage with whatever you want, and it helps you pay for, flashback, kicker, level up costs and the like.

Not sure what you would prefer, but I really never particularly liked Goblin Sharpshooter aside from the art. I feel that any one of your maybeboard cards would better serve you.

April 21, 2015 7:02 a.m.

Well, let me rephrase. With the exception of annihilating weenies I never liked Goblin Sharpshooter. I think it would better serve you in your sideboard for when you face those style decks.

Might I also recommend Repercussion and/or Slith Firewalker?

I think you're right, Mortiferus_Rosa. Partly it's there because my meta runs a lot of weenie and part because the tiny leaders format limits the creatures to where often they will be 1 defence (magical christmas land). I might try switching him out for Cinder Pyromancer if he works out less successful. Thanks for the reminder.

I would probably add Mutavault and Mishra's Factory. This is a monocolored deck with a strong beatdown plan - your mana requirement are light enough you can afford the colorless lands and having the option of having them turn sideways is pretty great.

Browbeat is pretty bad.

Scythe of the Wretched is not really where you want to be, I feel. I would consider Sword of Fire and Ice.

Blinding Flare seems just worse than, say, Seismic Stomp, and I am not even sure that is an effect you need at all.

Interesting ideas TheRedMage. Thank you very much. I'll probably look into those. Scythe of the Wretched combos well with Ashling the Pilgrim when I sometimes swap her out as commander. I'll likely put those lands in there, but Browbeat is far from bad. Both effects I want. All the time.

April 21, 2015 5:04 p.m.

@TheRedMage I am also going to have to disagree with you regarding Browbeat. For three mana it either gets you 5 damage on your opponent (an absolute steal of a mana price for that damage) OR it gets you card advantage which is NOT something you see in red. That card is powerful, especially in tiny leaders.

Personally I just hate giving my opponent options, even when they seeminglt are both bad for them (consider for example Vexing Devil which doesn't see play for the same reason).

My preference is to instead run Pulse of the Forge although part of it might just be nostalgia for when I started playing magic back in 2003 when wizards thought Skullclamp was a good idea and a friend of mine repeatedly mopped the floor with me with a Darksteel Colossus + Proteus Staff monstrosity that kept itself from dying with Pulse of the Fields. 4 damage is not much different from 5, and there is a chance you will actually be drawing a card (specifically the same Pulse of the Forge) with it.

you need Cavern of Souls unless you like being shit on by blue decks with any counterspells, also, if you're going with red aggressive creatures you really should take a look at some older cards like Goblin Piledriver, as well as some more enemy board clears like Mizzium Mortars. also just curious? what would you do if someone just Pyroclasm or Anger of the Gods.. you need more protection or else your deck will be destroyed by removal. also is this for 1v1? things like Lightning Bolt are literally useless in multiplayer because you can only target one person.. single player its ok i guess.. but a lot of these cards are more modern burn deck style than commander style, and if it is a 1v1 deck you might want to add more anti-lifegain like SkullcrackFlames of the Blood Hand or you may find yourself facing white green or black decks that laugh at you as their life total goes into the hundreds. yes Sulfuric Vortex is good but nothing an Erase wont fix

@ goblinguiderevealpls: I think the fact that you mention many of the cards being "more modern burn deck style than commander style" as a flaw means you have a bit of a misconception about what Tiny Leaders is as a format. This is a 1-on-1 deck because TL is a 1-on-1 format and it's really a bit closer to singleton legacy than commander - and 50 cards is really just not enough to run situational cards like Erase in the mainboard.

So to answer your concerns:

  • About Cavern of Souls: I don't think you lose much by running it (this is a monocolored deck, so there aren't too many risks of getting color screwed), so it might be worth it, but I wouldn't worry about mono-blue too much. My friends that run Vendilion Clique flat-out refuse to play against my Zo-Zu the Punisher deck just out of how unfavorable the matchup is. They are wasting time trying to stall the board and you are like whatever dude swing for 8 bolt you.
  • Goblin Piledriver is pretty baller but this deck is running no goblins. There is somewhere out there a deck (maybe Tuktuk the Explorer?) that runs a bunch of goblin (lackey into piledriver into dash mardu scout bolt your blocker take nine question mark) but I am not sure jamming a tribal package in this deck is the best way to go.
  • Mizzium Mortars: nothing to say here, its a pretty solid card. I'd run it myself if it could go to the face.
  • If they resolve Pyroclasm: you curl up in a ball and die. I am not sure there are TL decks that mainboard the card, but I don't think you can build a mono-red aggro deck that doesn't fold to those cards.
  • I am not sure Skullcrack and Flames of the Blood Hand are good enough for the mainboard (a bit too narrow) but I could see having those cards in the sideboard.

Thanks TeaTimeWizard.

And thanks to TheRedMage, goblinguiderevealpls, Mortiferus_Rosa for the discussion. I tried Mizzium Mortars in the initial build but often found that I beat my opponent before I reached 6 mana for the Overload ability. At that point, I might as well has Flame Slash.

April 25, 2015 2:03 a.m.

TheRedMage says... #24

Well, yes. In a deck like this you view Mizzium Mortars as a slightly worse Flame Slash that can in rare occasions wrath their board, and just cast it for early and often.

I would definitely not run the card before Flame Slash though.

Thought on your choice of creatures: Reckless Waif  Flip? I hear 3/2s for one mana are good.
